Okay folks, we promised you a contest and a contest you shall have.  We just got in a parcel of 6 light yellow radiants - all stunners for sure.  Check out the pics below.  It's your job to guess the total weight of all six stones to 2 decimal places, ie.  9.99ctw.

Oh, alright, because I like you guys, I'll give you one clue: the price for this entire parcel would be $12,420 if we were to list the set in our store.  Man, I am too good to you.   Wink

The rules are pretty simple:
1.  One guess per forum member.
2.  Editing of posts/guesses will disqualify that member from the contest.
3.  The winner will be the closest member either over or under.
4.  The contest is open to all forum members except any associates of DBL and/or Rock Diamond.

Prizes:
1.  The closest guess will receive a $50 DBL gift certificate and a travel size ultrasonic cleaner. In the event of a tie, BOTH will win the gift certificate, but only the entry that was made first wins the ultrasonic jewelry cleaner.
2.  The next 2 closest guesses will also recieve $50 DBL gift certificates- again- in the event of a tie, the guess placed first wins..

As of now, you have 2 weeks to get your guesses in.  This contest will officially end at midnight EST May 20th...............alright!  Who's got the coconuts to guess first?  Not you DJM - you don't qualify.......... Grin

Cool!
I'll have a proper look in the morning (getting late here) and post my guess then. Very, very nice stones if I may say so.

Hmm...

Give me a moment to wipe the drool up off of my desk, so sparkley!

I'll guess, 4.85 carats for the 6. Smiley

Hi everybody!
Sometimes, when we're buying diamonds, we buy them one at a time.  There are other occasions, where we are offered a group of diamonds, also known as a parcel, in such a way that it makes sense for us to buy the whole group, or most of it.
Let's say the cutter buys a grouping of rough diamonds.  He knows his cost for this group of diamonds. If he sells them as a group, it does not matter what any one single diamond is worth.

In many cases, the cutters themselves need to buy a grouping of diamonds, and the diamonds have wildly different values.

Maybe some have stronger colors than others.

Maybe some are clean, while others have black spots.

Maybe the diamonds are of different sizes.

Maybe some of them finish as better cut diamonds than others.

In many cases, the cutters themselves decide to send each Diamond to GIA,in an attempt to  maximum profit off of the whole business.

So, buying parcels is an opportunity, in many cases.  Like every opportunity, it has its hazards.
The parcel that is the subject of this contest seems to be pretty uniform in color.

We are also considering a second parcel of diamonds.  The other one has a couple of very light diamonds, and a couple of darker stones.
There is an I1 diamond, and 2 more I2 diamonds. If we buy them as a group, we need to know how much each is worth, to make sure it makes sense to buy all.

There's also this unique cut...is unique good?

I LOVE that.  LOVE it.  It's like an octagonal round, well, if there could be such a thing.  SUPER cool.

Ok - that is really cool!

How big is it D?

Do you think you could put a bezel around it?  I think it would make a rocking pendant.  Talk about one of a kind...

Ok, I'll guess 8.28ct.

I love that unique cut - very, very nice.

Why do I want to see it as an earring? Which part of 'unique' was confusing for me?  Grin
