I thought I'd start this thread, as I remember recently reading something on CDI about why we don't see many rounds in yellow.  I replied saying that I had thought David said something about how the color won't take in a round as well vs. a radiant for example.  I forget exactly what he said...

Yeah I think that's correct Snooper......I remember him saying that too.

I also thought it had something to do with the cut itself. A round requires the most waste of rough. Is that right? So with fancy color diamonds, they usually don't make rounds.  dontknow

I thought it had to do with light.  That RBs send light out, which reduces the look of the color (good dor whites), whereas fancy shapes draw light in and deepen the color (good for fancies).

There should be a contest to see who gets this right!

BTW, what happened to that FABULOUS yellow RB David had a few weeks ago?  I would have fought you all off for that if it had lasted more than an hour!  Is it still around and available?

i agree with GL...  i think round sends too much light for the color to stay in...

HI Everyone!

The main problem with Fancy Colored rounds is that the basic design of a round diamond makes the the light move faster, and that makes stone look whiter.

That means that a  round diamond which has a lot of color from behind becomes faint when you turn it over and look into it's face.
We have cutters that are specialists in fancy colors- they can take a diamond which looks faint from behind show a lot of color face up - providing they cut to cushion , oval, radiant, pear....anything BUT round.

Reminds me of an old "diamond man" story.
A young man who's father was int he diamond business told his dad he wanted to get into the business.
"All right", said his father. "take all these round brilliant diamonds, and put them face down on the chair ( culet up) His dad gave him a bunch of 2 carat diamonds, which he obediently placed on the chair.
"Now sit down" said the father.
OUCH!!! said the boy.
"First lesson" said the father.
Turn over your inventory..........

Thanks for the info David. and thanks snooper for starting this thread. One more question.

I notice that my FLY cushion show more glitter and flash than my white diamond of any shape (pear, round, emerald) in room lighting especially warm/yellow light but less sparkle that those white diamond in direct sunlight. Is this going to do with how they cut fancy color and white diamond differently? or just my diamond

i don't think they're brownish in person...  it looks like a nice shade of yellow in person!

HI Guys,
I guess the color is ...different than a yellow radiant's yellow.
I guess there's a slight brownish tinge as the photo shows......

Those are yummy and given the odds of waiting years to find another pair of yellow rounds, I'm surprised they haven't been snapped up!

I got to see those cuties too and I have to say that the color is gorgeous in person.  I am so surprised that no one has bought them yet.   I think that they would make a great set of studs which would be a stunning basis for gizmos of all shapes and sizes Smiley
