i always thought that a diamond that was more intense than any of the alphabet colors would be considered a canary. UV and YZ just seem so light that some might consider them just off color whites......Huh? dontknow 5160.gif

Hi All!
It's true, there is a lot of misunderstanding regarding the lighter yellow diamonds.
Common sense might make it seem like anything lighter than "Fancy Light Yellow" is not a "Fancy Colored Diamond"

In fact, diamonds graded the last letters of the alphabet- some as light as S-T color- have quite a noticeable yellow color.

Here's a chart showing rings we have made with U-V colored diamonds, for example.

Its like 'champagne' diamonds.....its just a fancy word for a dirty coloured diamond IMO.
Nothing champagne about it.

Hi All!

Pip- I think you'll find a lot of lovers of brown diamonds here..including myself!

A nicely cut brown can be quite brilliant, exotic, and a lot easier to buy than a yellow, or white diamond.
But we don't call ours champagne.....

I think the point is that these type of labels do not not really work in describing the colors of diamonds.

Really Pip? Hmmm, I beg to differ. Nothing dirty or non-sparkly about these...they're blindingly sparkly and quite clear actually.

And gorgeous rich oranges shimmer from these. Got compliments on these all day. One person tracked me down from across a room after a meeting, actually.

I agree about not particularly liking terms like "canary" or "Champagne," but I think that many brown diamonds are incredibly pretty.

I love my brown diamond ring!  The flashes of color are beautiful.

I love all the colors!  I am loving, just loving, my Y-Z radiant studs that I recently bought from IHADP.  The only *problem* with them, really, is that I don't have a matching necklace or ring!  Evil

IHADP, that is so funny about the person (woman, I'd guess?) stopping you after a meeting.  This is EXACTLY how I would have been-- I don't function particularly well in meetings because A) I can't easily sit still for that long unless I'm REALLY interested in the subject, and B) I am SO easily distracted... my internal voice is going "That's a cute haircut.  Wonder how my hair would look like that.  Hmmm.  I wonder what size her ER is?  Is that a princess or a radiant?  Darn.  I can't tell from here.  I should have sat on the other side of the room.  If that guy yammering on at the front of the room would just hush, maybe I could move."

Thanks Mikla! They really are beautiful. David knows how to pick browns, that's for sure.

annie, that's such a beautiful shot of your sugar babies - I love the combination with your yellow band so much!

robin, you're cracking me up totally - I think we're twins separated at birth. I am kind of listening at meetings, but I'm mostly checking out everyone and everything going on around me. Especially if someone has some remotely interesting jewelry, I'm just gone!  I was hoping you'd chime in about those earrings -- I am so happy you're adoring them like I did/do!!!!!!!!  Hmmm, seems like we still need robin EARSHOTS GIRL!!!

I do understand how Pip developed the misconception about browns, given the quality of the majority of goods being sold out there.  One must see David's to appreciate the real beauty browns can have.

Here's a shot of my aunt's pinkish brown halo in pink gold, btw; which is amazing. Sometimes looks brown, sometimes looks pink but always extremely clear and super sparkly!

Your aunt's ring is beautiful, IHADP. I could look at your studs and jackets all day, too. Such a rich, warm colour.

Pip I felt exactly the same as you until I saw one that literally blew my socks off.  A good brown radiates all the colours of the rainbow.  I have one that flashes blue, green, orange, red, yellow - you name it it's there!  If you get the chance to see one in person (a good well cut one) don't pass it up - you may be pleasantly surprised!!!

DJM,did you ever tell us how that gorgeous oval is being set?

Well...a few of you have asked me this same question and I haven't responded. So I guess I'm up to bat.

About a month ago DW was really stressed about a few things. We found out that we had a huge home repair bill in the tune of $10, 000 that we weren't expecting, DS#1 decided that he was going to take summer courses at law school and needed help with tuition, DS#2's first semester college bill coming due in August and we had to prepay our oil bill for the winter.

I asked DW why she was so quiet one morning over coffee and she said that she was stressed about all the money we were shelling out. I rsponded like I always do and said : "It's only money, don't let it stress you out. We have always managed."  She then said: "Honey, promise me that you won't do anything big for our anniversary. I'd feel horribly knowing you spent alot on me with all this other stuff we have going. Let's just have a romantic dinner together."
Well as you can imagine, I really down played it all. I think she was onto me because she made me promise her. Urgh...it was all paid for and everything. So now I don't know what to do. It's sitting in my bank deposit box.

I don't know what I'm going to do. Thoughts anybody?

DJM
Has she never queried where her other ring got to ? I know you told her it was being checked for loose stones etc but that`s quite a while ago now.
I`m afraid I`m all for upfront honesty. Tell her you bought the stone before your unexpected bills arrived but that you`ve put setting it on hold until finances are easier and that it will be something both of you can look forward to choosing together. She might be cross you bought it but she won`t be cross for long because you haven`t splashed out having it set and maybe you can compromise by saying it will be set for her Christmas gift or birthday gift. She can be thinking about what style she`d like to have.
Come clean with her and she`ll be fine.

DJM, this one is a no-brainer for me.  Easy.  You give her the diamond.  Just like you planned.  As you say, it is already done and paid for.  Your promise to her came after-the fact. Besides, you decided not to set the diamond, correct?  There is SOME savings there. And, perhaps, bag the trip you'd thought about (or down-scale the event).

Explain to DW that the giving of this diamond means a great deal to you... because you KNOW that deep down, she loves this type of diamond.  And, you've been planning this "upgrade" for years.  An anniversary like this doesn't come around everyday.  This is a special occasion, and an expression of your love and appreciation.  Instead of stressing about the expense, ask her to think about how much you love her each time she looks at the diamond. This is what the gift is about.  No amount of stress can change how you feel about her.

We never know what tomorrow will bring.  Enjoy the moment.
