Hi Everyone!
Heart Shapes are kind of like sushi.
You either love them, or can't really stand them......

For the lovers of heart shapes, there are a ot of different aspects.
My personal feelings about heart shapes?
When set the right way, I love them.

OK, so what do we look for?
Let's start with two we're considering right now.
1) 1.01ct Fancy Intense Yellow

In terms of shape, this is a "classic" heart.  Like the ones you used to draw on your notebooks at school...you know Jo Heats Lola, that sort of thing.
The shape is one of the first ( if not the first) thing you notice about the diamond, and this is one aspect a GIA report does not convey at all.
Nonetheless, we can ascertain other aspects form the GIA report.

ITEM #: R2280
Heart Shape Diamond, Loose

  WEIGHT: 1.01ct
  SHAPE: Heart Shape
  COLOR: Fancy Intense Yellow
  CLARITY: VS1
  MEASUREMENTS: 6.16 x 6.13 x 3.44 mm
  TOTAL DEPTH: 56.1%
  TABLE SIZE: 66%
  POLISH: G
  SYMMETRY: G
  FLUORESCENCE: FAINT
  GIA REPORT #: 16200648
Price: $7995
CDi Special: $7795

SO- we see it's got a depth of 56.1% , which may indicate that there's some good visual size for the weight. That is the case here. It looks larger than most 1.01carats heart you'll see.

The table size of 66% can be a good number as well.
66% means there's not an overly large table which might be a problem, or might not.....wow all this waffling is really educational right?

Seriously, the point is, you really cant tell all that much from the numbers if you're not looking at the diamond to see how it all adds up in 3d.
On this particular one, everything's working very well in concert with the other.
In person, it's a total bucket of crushed ice

Of course the fact it's a screamin' yellow- very close to vivid yellow- combined with the vice shape and cutting make it a very desirable stone.

NEXT:
This is a larger, less yellow diamond....

IN the photos, it exhibits a very interesting facet pattern- less...organized than the 1.01carat.
The shape a little more chubby than the 1.01- but both exhibit nice cleavage.
Can I admit I never dreamed we'd be having a conversation about cleavage?
So, both of these have it.
A nice cleavage is necessary for the diamond to look like a heart.

Let's look at the other aspects....
ITEM #: R2279
Heart Shape Diamond, Loose

  WEIGHT: 1.53ct
  SHAPE: Heart Shape
  COLOR: Y-Z, Natural Light Yellow
  CLARITY: VS1
  MEASUREMENTS: 6.71 x 7.34 x 4.09 mm
  TOTAL DEPTH: 55.7%
  TABLE SIZE: 69%
  POLISH: VG
  SYMMETRY: G
  FLUORESCENCE: FAINT
  GIA REPORT #: 16287093

Price: $7495
CDI Special price: $7295

I'll admit, looking at this one, versus the other, proves an interesting comparison.
The stones are almost identical depth. The 1.53 has a slightly larger table- yet they have different types of sparkle.

I just showed them both to SO ( significant other), and she chose the 1.53 because she felt it was livelier- but she also thought both nicely cut.
In some ways I prefer the 1.01 because the color and sparkle are more intense.

Well, I am really torn.  I love the color and facet pattern on the FIY, but the chubbier shape of the Y-Z.

Actually, my heart is currently with the 4 ct yellow heart pendant that I cannot see being able to afford anywhere in the near future.  Sigh...

Would be fun to see a picture of these two next to each other.

I lean to the 1.53ct - I love the lighter colors.  I will have me a yellow heart someday.   Smiley

hahaha!! In hearts, I want it to look like a heart with nice cleavage.. I like the pseudo hearts (like a fat tear drop) but that doesn't look like a heart... The one you showed above does!!

Normally I wouldn't consider a heart diamond for a ring, maybe for earrings, but definitely for a necklace with a halo!   Evil

Are the larger cw heart shapes harder to find or not particularly in favor?  I don't see that many around, in any color.

I'll probably be miserable if I get an answer to this, but what is a ball park price by carat for a white heart diamond, VS2/SI1, decent color, from 3 to 4 carats?   Around 10k per carat?  violent1 BangHead 1087

Mikla
David has a stunner of a 2.09 ct white heart, micro set pendant already on the site at $12,999. This may give you a rough idea.
I often look at the movie of it cos I`m a great fan of heart diamonds and it`s beautiful.

Dear Lynne:

Yes, I've seen it and that's what started my whole new obsession!   Tempted

I was, however, looking for a bit larger stone in a setting which isn't as deep, which prompted my question about what I was getting myself into "price-wise".

Does anyone have pics of a heart necklace on that they could tempt me with?   photo

David - I love the 1.01ct but it's not entirely symmetrical (but maybe that's the angle of the photo?) and that, for me, is the most important aspect of a heart shaped diamond.  Having said that, I'm sure clever setting can sort it out easily and the colour is out of this world!  As for the larger one, it's a nicer shape but doesn't have the va va voooom of the smaller heart!

Having said that, if I was given either I wouldn't be unhappy!!!

Oh dear, sorry.  A while back David had a parcel of diamonds.  He posted a photo with the diamonds all laid out and he had numbered them.  This one was Number 26 from that group.  I think the shot is there if you go to the description of this particular diamond.

Actually, it would be fun to see of the stones that David purchased from that group, how many are actually left and what they've become.  I think there are a few, but I doubt there are many left.
