I wanted to know if there was a reason why yellow diamonds are not set in yellow gold?  For example, Heidi Klum and Rebecca Romjin wear yellow diamonds set in yellow gold but I see on the web and in stores, yellow diamonds set in white gold and platinum?

Can anyone comment?

Thanks - Newbie Docram

We set the yellow diamond in yellow gold and the white diamonds in white gold or platinum.

There is only an exception if a customer requests it.

The basket head, the "yellow diamond holder", is in yellow gold. The rest of this ring, including the basket heads holding the white diamond side stones, are in platinum. David is MUCHO pernickedy about the manufacture of our rings.

You'll notice it's low to the finger which is something you can achieve with a custom made setting. There are NO gaps and everything is straight.

If there aren't diamonds in heaven, I'm not going!

I've got to point out here that your typical jeweller doesn't have anything like the experience that David does when it comes to setting colored diamonds.  If you want the stone set to bring out the color and qualities of that particular diamond, then you can't go wrong with DBL.

In recent years, the trend has been more toward the white metals and jewellers have obliged by setting just about everything into white gold and platinum.  All very well when most of the the diamonds they set are white too.  Frankly, I don't think most even stop to think that a yellow diamond might just look better in a yellow metal.  Think about your typical tiffany setting: a plain yellow gold shank with a white gold head for your white diamond.  It only makes sense that if the diamond were yellow, you would probably be better off with a yellow head..........well, surprisingly, that fact seems to have been lost in translation with many jewellers!

Yellow gold seems to be making a small comeback and I think it's been great to see Rebecca and Heidi with yellow gold rings.  Even Victoria Beckham has a MASSIVE light yellow radiant in a yellow gold setting.  If she's wearing yellow gold, it's GOT to be back in style!

I have to say, I LOVE yellow gold
Platinum is the metal of choice for things like shanks on the highest dollar diamonds, simply becasue it's so rish and pure.
BUT- 18kt Yellow, Green, or Rose gold has such a  warm feel to it.
We've had folks request yellow gold on shanks with Yellow centers- we put the white diamonds in platinum or 18kt white, then use 18kt yellow for the rest ofthe ring.

Rings look amazing lilke that

I prefer platinum or white gold to yellow gold, simply because it matches most of my jewelry better (I have loads of Native American jewelry---in silver).

But I have seen some GORGEOUS yellow gold jewelry. And some stunning pieces in rose gold too!

I think it's just personal preference! Have you seen Kleinkath's collection??? She has some yellow gold jewelry that makes me DROOL!

AWESOME pic Snooper! I've never seen her ring before.

If you ever need a celeb ring pic, ask Snooper - she knows where to find them!

Here is a close up of Heidi Klum's ring.  Saving it for a rainy day. . . and a downpour of cash!

Thanks for those pics of Heidi's jewelry, Snooper!

I thought it was pretty typical to put yellow gold heads on yellow diamonds, but I guess I could be wrong. That's how my ring is designed. I have seen some yellow diamonds in white metal, mainly with pave work, but these were very bold and stark designs where that type of contrast was needed.

I personally love rose gold. It's so beautiful with pink diamonds, but unfortunately doesn't really compliment my skin tone much. I'm kinda yeller, so yellow gold or two toned designs tend to look better on me.

Thanks so much for your thoughts!  I've decided to go with David's suggestion, a yellow stone in a platinum setting with yellow gold prongs.  It's in the works now but when it's done, I will post my photos!

Bri, heck, if my skin was green, or with polka dots?  I'd still get pink diamonds! LOL

Docram, that's exciting! I can't wait to see the final product!!!

You know...I am sure it cost a fortune...but from the pictures, I am not wild about Heidi Klum's ring.  I think David could have set it much nicer!  Of course, I am biased...
