I have a loose natural fancy light blue marquise and am looking for some suggestions for settings.  It is light so a solitaire setting would wash out the blue and make it look white.  Would a pink or white diamond halo look best?  Thoughts on settings?  Any suggestions?  One jewellery "designer" I took it to recommended sapphires but I'm not too keen on that idea.  Help please.

Hi Zoey!  Lovely to have you here!

I know David has set some lighter blues in pink halos which brings out the color.  If I was the lucky owner of a natural blue, I'd want to play that color up too!  I think sapphires may overpower it.

Sapphires huh?
Let's take that "designer out for a  good whopping"

We have a Fancy Light Blue Radiant.

We set it in a platinum ring with pink gold halo.
What do you think?

I'm partial to the pink:) But I too think sapphires would be overkill..

How about a split shank with white diamonds, maybe halo?

I guess if it were me, I'd choose white halo, and maybe a split shank:) Also a member CaratHead is setting her marq in a e/w setting!!! Tongue

Thanks everyone.  My marquise is unfortunately way, way, WAY smaller than the radiant in the picture but it does look like the pink diamonds bring out the blue color.  And the split shank is a good idea too (anything that increases the tcw is fine with me) thanks:)

How about a setting like this:

This one has a .55ct center, what size is yours?

I wonder if DiamLady could photoshop that pink marquise to an icy blue?  More than likely as she is the queen of photoshop!  I'll send her a PM.

Here's the photoshop version of that marquise ring but with a light blue center.  It might look just grey, but it does have a faint blue color to it. Hope it helps. Smiley

Rhonda, you're the Queen of Photoshop!! It's beautiful!

If I had a light blue diamond, I'd definitely set it with a pink diamond halo!! I love both of the ones DBL did.

I just can't see dark blue sapphires looking that well with a light blue diamond.

My 2 cents.

I love that ring photo shop.    I think no matter what the size a blue diamond is gonna be lovely.  What about "blue gold" or greenish gold...couldnt that help to make the blue diamond more blue??

Speaking of blue i cant wait to see alysons blue pinky ring Smiley

Hey Guys,
No such thing as "blue gold"- green gold is eseentially really really yellow  looking, no help there......

WOW Rhonda ...you are awesome....!! Love the photoshop idea.     Has anyones suggestions help thus far Zoey.   Would love to see a pic of that beautiful blue baby.      As one who is a sapphire lover...I have to agree, don't do blue sapphires.....that blue diamond deserves to have diamonds around it!   Sapphires may "cheapen" the effect of the look of the ring.   (I can't believe I said that out loud)  ~Ronda

Me neither, especially you being such a sapphire lover! But I totally agree with you.

AZ....just heard from David yesterday, and the baby blue is still two weeks out!!! I was only mentally prepared for one more week. crybaby2

However, on deciding what to do with the blue marquis......my blue round will be set in all white.  It is a pale blue, so that will give us an idea of how white affects the color.

I'm so excited to see it Alyson! I love that setting you chose too! I'm sure the blue/white contrast will be stunning! It'll be exciting to say you own a natural blue diamond! It looked blue (not green) in the pics to me!

Hopefully the time will go by fast!

Would a rose gold setting bring out the blue, or wash it out?

I don't think rose gold would wash out the blue - especially if pinks are being halo-ed around the blue.  Another combination that I have seen that seems to be effective for light blues is a halo of yellow diamonds.  Although my own personal favorite is almost any color w/ pinks around it  Wink

I've never seen a blue diamond with a yellow halo. Do you have any pics you can post? I just can't visualize that looking good (sorry). But I can definitely see it with a pink halo. Oh, that'd just be DREAMY! Just like a beautiful sunset!!!!!!!
