How much does a modifying color bring down the price of a pink diamond (orange or brown). What would a orangy pink or brown pink diamond around .25 ct, radiant, oval or cushion cost compared to a pure pink diamond?

HI!
Welcome to CDi

The price of "pure" pink diamonds themselves can vary widely , based on how the pink looks.
Generally speaking, the presence of brown cuts 50% - or more- off the price.
Here again.
If GIA calls a diamond Fancy Brownish Pink- and it looks very pink- the price will still be stratospheric.

Orange might sometimes be near the price of pure- again- depending on the actual appearance of the diamond

Thanks for the quick reply, I really like the pastel pinks, and the orangy pink or peachy pink looking diamonds. I saw one that had a magenta look to it I think it was brown-pink. I'm looking for around a .20 stone, radiant is my favorite cut but ovals are nice too. I've seen some diamonds that brown pink but almost have a "burnt sienna" look to them.

My all time favorite color of natural diamond is a "pink-champagne". Which is really a brown-pink color. But it needs to be a light to medium shade. DREAMY!!!!!!! They are just very hard to find in good quality. But someday I WILL own one!  Grin

My friend has a GIA certed 3.48ct fancy pinkish brown diamond that has flourence which shows some kind of a light smoky grey color but the pinkish/brown color is in a medium tone. How does the flourence effect the price ?? And how much it worth in the market today?

I like to have something like that , I am sure it cost less than a pure pink.
Thanks Lydia

Hi  Lydia,
Welcome to CDI!

It really depends so much on the look of the diamond- but any  3 plus carat diamond with the word "Pink" on a GIA report is going to start at $30k- for a really seriously ugly one- or one that you have actually tell people- "It's pink" ( if the stone looks more brown, or smokey grey)

A nice one?

Last three carat plus pinkish brown we sold was over $80k with no fluorescence.
It looked really pink- and could easily have gone for over $100k

In terms of answering the question
What's the effect of fluorescence on a pink ( or pinkish brown) diamond's price and appearance is- it really depends on a lot of factors.

NO- $30k for the stone. For a barely pink Diamond- or a dull one, or one with a bad imperfection, or one with an undesirable cut or the list goes on.....
I'm not saying your friend's diamond is any of these things or that it's worth ANY amount. I have no idea without looking.

In terms of what consumers could expect to get for a diamond they want top sell to a dealer: For a dealer to buy it from a consumer, he's taking a much larger risk than he is buying it from regular sources- who may also offer terms.
This could translate into a big difference in what the diamond is worth if it's in a jewelry store as compared to what the very same diamond is worth in a consumer's hands....

Consumers need to have the same concerns about buying from unknown sources with no reputation.
I would encourage your friend to join- and post some photos!

Hi, I got a picture of the ring I mentioned earlier. GIA " Fancy pinkish brown" flourence not mentioned on the cert. Please kindly give me some idea on how much it worth and how is the color when it has brown and kind of greyish color from the flourence.
Oh, how to attach the picture?? I clicked on the Insert Image icon above and didn't work
Thank you very much Lydia

Hi Lydia,

To attach a picture, click where it says "additional options" at the bottom of the reply window.  When you do that, the option to browse for the photo on your computer will come up.

Post if you're still having trouble with it!

It looks like it might be quite nice!
I really can't see the pink too well the pink all that well though...
If you'd like to let us know what she paid, I'll be happy to comment.

I can never get my head around how pink diamonds are priced. I look at the ones on DBL and they actually look big enough to be worth the money. Today I saw one on another site, it was a mere .30 cts emerald cut pinky purple, in a platinum setting with a kind of diamond halo and a few diamonds on the shoulders and it was just a few dollars short of $30k. Seems an awful lot of money for an awfully small ring to me.

True that awesruck!

I am trying to replace the ring CH bought....

That ring , with a carat and a half "light pink" center- was priced in the low '30's.

Looking at it now, a replacement with a stone that looks pretty, and pink- could easily list well over $50k

Re: 3.48ct pear brownish pink diamond ring, my friend bought it in 1994 and changed to a new mounting. looks like a lot of pink , a lot of brown and a lot of silver grey color. I guess she is testing who will offer her the most. wish I can take the ring for an appraisal. Thanks Lydia

Hi Lydia,
i would love to assist if I could.
Please call me
877-952-8736 toll free.....

In terms of an appraisal....It would be of limited value unless you were able to find someone that was really familiar with the particular article- that being pinkish brown diamonds.

Many appraisers might just give you an arbitrary value- in other words, a number they pick, but not necessarily one which is even close to what she might be able to get.
Remember, in the hands of a private individual, a diamond is worth a lot less than if a reputable dealer is selling it.
