Hello group

i've found this fancy pink purple diamond ring; however have run into a stumper with the descrption as it says "Fancy Purple Pink Raidan diamond Ring surroudned with fine white diamond pave. Nice laid-out spread has measurements of carat[/b]." When i went to a ring store and showed them, they said to stay away that, the jeweler is probably trying to hide something but i dont know. It is .68ct SI clarity

What do you guys think? is that a bad sign if it says that. There is a GIA certificate

thank you

Hi nmoham1!

Welcome to CDi!!

It's not possible to answer your question without a whole lot more information- and actually seeing the diamond.
My suggestion is to check out any potential store or seller nine ways from Sunday.

there's so many ways this could be a bad deal- so caution is in order.

Shape and Cut: Cut-Cornered. Rectangular Modified Brilliant

Measurements: 5.96x4.85x2.65
Weight. .68

Origin: Natural
Grade: Fancy Purple Pink
Distribution: even

The store that i went to mentioned that anytime it says "laid out spread" that means the diamond is made to look big and is usually shallow and does not hold light. However to me, the measurements would say otherwise...

thoughts?

Sorry mnoham1.  You've been caught in the tiara loading zone.  The webmistress is working on the issue, but if you can open a Picassa or Photobucket account (photobucket is free), you can upload there and insert the pix into a post using the .img facility - 3rd in from the leftmost 'tag

oh, and hidey-ho, neighbor.  Welcome to the forum.

If it doesn't pan out for this pup, David can find anything specific that you want. Sometimes it takes a while, like DJM's monster yellow baguette; but he'll do his absolute best to find the perfect stone for you.

Hard  to say... although the 55% depth seems shallow, you can't always judge a book by it's cover.  I have a shallow EC (50.8% depth) that reflects light back beautifully.  Radiants have a lot more facets, so if the cut is good or better, it may not be that much of an issue.  Plus it would look as though you have a bigger stone.  Have you seen the stone?  Any chance to post a picture of it?

Hello nmoham1, welcome to CDI.

Without seeing the diamond - not just one, but many photographs at the very least - it's impossible to say very much. It looks large and spready for a 0.68 radiant; but there are nice stones with these proportions. Here is one remarkably similar in size to the one you are looking at:

It doesn't have a single dead spot.

On the other hand, there are stones with those proportions that look like pieces of coloured glass. To some extent, price is a signal of how nice the stone is; how much are they asking?

Hi nmoham1,
Have you tried using a site like photobucket?
You upload the photos there and can paste them into posts

The diamond in the picture looks very nice, actually the ring looks nice as well.  With the GIA color certificate, the photo and if it is indeed an SI clarity diamond, it looks nice.  I hope the price is good for you.  To me, it doesn't seem as though they're "hiding" something, it's just that the diamond looks bigger because it is cult a little bit shallow.  It looks nice to me.

My impressions: One photo can actually create more questions than answers.- I'd want to see more pictures.
This goes for ring as well as diamond.
Ostensibly the ring itself looks ok- but if one looks closely, there are possible problem areas.

I agree, the diamond itself has a nice shade- but again, we need to see more photos for context.

was able to aquire some more angle photo's

http://photobucket.com/pinkdiamondnm

pricewise its about $18k; however it is a little more than my budget. It is an older ring though.

Shallow means it captures less light right?

thank you for your input

How much light reflects back is also dependent upon how good the cut is (to reflect back the light). A video is a good way to see it in action.  One of the things that attracted me to Diamonds by Lauren was the videos of the diamonds in motion that David makes.   If you go to the DBL site you'll also see that some of the videos show the diamonds in different lighting situations. You can't beat it.
