Hi I have always been crazy about diamonds but not very knowledgeable.  I was told to buy from the heart so I did and now I am afraid I paid too much I can still get my money back  but am not sure I want to.  My ring has a gem report by EGL USA but I don't understand it.  Maybe someone could help me decide.  Its a white gold ring ring stamped 14k with rose accents there is 1 natural diamond 1.21 ct.  the color is o-p and the clarity grade is vs2 there is 88 small diamonds that are h-1 and s13-12.  2 have fallen out of the band I am sending it in to be fixed (no charge) If one more falls out they will replace the ring.  I bought it from Diamonds International in Belize. I was looking for something unusual like a yellow diamond now I am afraid I bought something of poor quality.  the web site is www.eglusa.com My report # is 48265103d thanks for your opinion Sherry

Welcome Sherry!!  If you're crazy about diamonds, you're definitely in the right place. This is a great place to enjoy all the gorgeous gems, and learn SO much along the way.

Do you have pictures you can share with us?  Something I have learned here is that I never judge diamonds anymore by the stats alone...(plus it's a sneaky way for me to get to see your ring!)

Glad you're here! I know you will get lots of reliable information here.  Don't forget though, ultimately, it's YOUR ring, YOUR diamonds, and if they speak to you, that's what counts most IMHO.

it's kind of hard to say without knowing what you paid or having pics, even with that said, if you love your ring then it was a good purchase.

Nice to meet you Sherry!  We would love to see pictures of your ring!  As you will learn on this forum, a diamond of any color / grade can be beautiful and worn with pride.  However, one thing we don't do is judge a diamond based on paper alone.  So, please send us pictures.  We will be happy to give you our humble opinions. Hi Sherry welcome to CDi.

Much as I hate to say this,  you got here too late.....
Before we go any further, is it possible that you can get a refund?

You guys have made a good point about not being able to judge a diamond solely by the numbers.
However, the way a diamond is represented is very important- and may be able to tell us something about the diamond

Hi Sherry, welcome. You're sure to get sound advice that puts YOUR interests first here. But, as a general note, I'd say listen to your "little voice." If you are unsure about something, there is probably a valid reason for your feelings.  That being said, your ring sounds lovely.

Too late? She has a future doesn't she? There could be rings and diamonds in her future. The members here are proof positive of that.

Welcome Sherry.

We absolutely look forward to your joining us in our nightly diamond rants and raves!

Sherry, I am not sure you know how funny this statement is.

Hey, also, I have been on a cruise or two and if you bought it as a yellow diamond and it grades out as something different, then Diamonds International will supposedly give you a full refund.

Yeah, I think the important thing is that whether or not you LOVE it, but I would be very upset to find out anything I bought had been misrepresented.  For them to say O-Ps can beautiful - yes!  But to try and sell it as a light yellow?  It would make me question absolutely everything.  I would also worry that so many stones are falling out already.

I don't know.  If you love it, keep it, but if you think you were taken for a ride, I would send it back asap and get something you can feel secure about.

Most importantly, WELCOME!

GIAGirl, you're right.  That IS a funny statement (CH, perhaps the UNDERstatement of the decade!).

Hi everybody!
I hope Sherry is  with her ring.

A lot of the cruise ship destinations are chock full of jewelry stores-which is where Sherry bought hers.

I do feel that many people get caught up in the romance of the port, and make purchases that might not necessarily be sound.

For many years, our company sold diamonds to the jewelers in St. Thomas and St. Martin.
I'm not saying it's impossible to get a good deal, however shoppers need to be very very careful.

As with any other place you might shop, sellers offering diamonds with EGL reports, and no explanation of the substandard nature of these reports are not exactly being forthcoming....

When I was there they had like an IGL...something I had never heard of.  They said they guaranteed that it would grade the same with the GIA...I think the only caveate was that you only had 30 days to return it and I am not sure you could get a grade from the GIA that quickly.   That was where I asked "what color yellow is that?" and they replied "canary."

But in Sherry's defense, they had pretty things!  I enjoyed looking, but did not partake.

Hi been having trouble with the internet.  I decided to keep my ring I paid 4778 for it and I love it even though it may not be the quality I thought it was.  I tried to upload a picture It didn't work.  I am sending the ring in to replace the small missing diamond.  They are calling my ring a fancy diamond.  I now understand a 0-p to be a light yellow.  My husband offered to replace the yellow diamond with one I liked better but I realy like the way the light play's off it and the yellow I see when the light hits it just right.  I am glad I didn't pay the12,000 it was listed at or the 10,000. they first offered it to me for.

Honestly... If your happy with it.... then that is what matters! Smiley  I bet it is lovely!   I was in St. Thomas not too long ago and looking at all the jewelry amongst the crowds of people was quite overwhelming.   I ended up finding a beautiful sunny champagne colored diamond halo pendant while I was there.  I will cherish the fact that it was from my mom and  a beautiful souvenier from St. Thomas!   Wear your ring in good health!!
