Jelly, if you want to keep the cost down, it sounds like gold is your route (rather than platinum).  Just a suggestion but you might want to hold the stone against different colors of gold (yellow, pink, white) to see which one you like best.  I had a colored diamond and thought for sure I knew what color gold I wanted it set in but when I actually saw how the color of the gold impacted the stone, I changed my mind completely.  Plus I found out that 10K pink is in fact "more pink" than 18K (I thought the reverse would be true because 18K yellow gold is more yellow than 14K or 10K). You might also want to try different K's of gold (especially if your not in a rush - take your time and get what you want).

How about one of the tulip settings in gold?  Although there would be no other stones, the ring itself is weighty while is still quite feminine; the design is timeless; it would hold up to being worn 24/7; AND the setting is very reasonably priced.  I think you can find a sample on the Semi Mounts page of the DBL website.  I think it would be quite pretty aa well as unusual.

Here's the tulip setting and it states $650:

OooH!  That's very pretty!  I'm thinking of making it a solitaire.  What do you think of brushed gold?  I saw this piece of costume jewelry at Nordstroms today that was in brushed yellow gold.  It looked very modern and beautiful.  Do you think that's too trendy?

Eh, I've never been a fan of brushed gold.. I like it say, for some pieces, like a broach but not a ring... Besides, scratch your band up enough and it'll look sorta brushed, aka patina!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! That is a great stone! First stay away from the brushed gold! If this a ring you plan to wear daily then that would be the worst. I bought a brushed rose gold band and wore it everyday and it looks like $hit now. Ant little scratch messes up the whole integrity of the ring. As for setting I like the suggestion of placing it by the different colors and carats of gold and see which looks best. I think this would look great with some tapered baguettes on the sides.

Good idea GIAGirl! I believe it's Awestruck who has that same bezel setting for a white heart...

It looks SO substantial!

I like that setting so much, that I may buy a ring just to get the setting.

I'm so jaded by bezels due to the starter/ear piercing studs that used to ALL be in bezel settings! I hated that circa 1984-1985 when I got my ears pierced.  I noticed say, 1990 or so, the studs started being set in prongs...

I didn't even think about how the brushed gold would get all scratched up.  What would I do without you guys?  Cool

I have a halo pendant that bezels the diamond and although I like the protection, I miss not seeing the girdle, ya know?

Perhaps a semi-bezel will do.  I have to wait till Tuesday to get my diamond...I will have a better idea when I see it and do the comparisons next to the different colors of gold.

This is my first DBL purchase.  Are David's pictures close to what they look like in real life?

Also, how does rose gold compare in price to white or yellow gold?

It will look exactly like the picture...but loose it may look a lot smaller than it will when it is set.

I've always thought David's pictures were spot on.  VERY hard to photograph diamonds.

I think for the most part, WG/Rose/YG are the same in price assuming if it's all 14k or 18k? I think 18k is general more expensive..

Yep Snoop`s right. I have a 1.16 heart bezel set in white gold. I like the bezel because it emphasises the heart shape so well and does`t look so " engagement " style. My heart is a RHR so the bezel looks nice and the setting sure is hard wearing.
I must admit one of my other RH rings is a halo and those halos add " sparkle " and size to a single stone, especially if the stone isn`t particularly big, mine`s .87 and the halo is yellow gold which shows up the colour of the centre diamond. Here`s a pic of it and if you could imagine the .87 stone alone, I think youll agree the halo makes it look much bigger.
Once you see your stone and the true size of it, then you`ll have a better idea of what you want.
Lynne

Diamonds are like people, put them under a microscope and you`ll always see a flaw but hold them up to the Sun and each and every one is beautiful.

Congratulations.  I love that brown, it is absolutely gorgeous.   If I were you I would choose that beautiful tulip setting.  I would try all the colours of gold to see which suits its  colour best.  Nothing like being practical and actually seeing the effect.

I am pretty sure that rose gold is a little more expensive the W/YG, unless he has the particular setting already in rose gold. Otherwise it is a considered a custom job!

I think in a nutshell, it just has "more texture"

In jewelry, the mistaken thought with brushed or textured gold is because it is already textured, the surface will hold up better over time because the dings and dangs (that inevitably come with wear) will not "show up" like they would with a smooth surface.  In actuality, the brushed surface is much more difficult to care for.  If you ding or dang it, you are really crushing or matting the surface.  Once the surface is "changed" there is no way to fix it.  Conversely, with a marked or slightly damaged smooth surface, you can always polish it back to it's shining self. Does that make sense?
