Hi everyone, now...I'm probably one of the few if not the only non-DBL owner on this forum so I'm trying to change that status and I've been checking out their site on a regular basis.

I've now seen these 2 rings and I adore them but there is a fairly large price difference between them.

Can anyone help me understand why? Obviously the more expensive one is a larger diamond, set in plat while the other is smaller and set in WG but even their mounting is similar.

Here are the rings...

Help and thanks....

My guess is that the 2.65 doesn't have any fluor and the color is more yellow (Y-Z) where as the other 2.42 is a U-V and has faint fluor.  Also, like you said, the metal.  I'm curious too!!!

The 2.65 has a really unique and more intricate looking profile though...

EXCITING if you get a yellow!!!!!

woohoo so exciting to pick out a ring...  btw i'm not an owner yet as well...  that should change soon...  my guess is the 2.65 is Y-Z and 2.42 is U-V...  2.65 is VS stone while 2.42 is SI1...  and the 2.65 looks like a 3 carat stone with that 53% depth...  the platinum will add to the cost as well by a thousand or two i would think...  i'm sure david here will chime in as soon as he gets back to NY...

i just noticed they're 2 different halo settings...  i think the 2.65 contains much more metal in weight...

Hi DiaDiva,

I'm going to send this on for David's attention but all the points raised are good ones.  The more expensive ring has simply more of everything!  And it does indeed look HUGE.

I'm guessing the setting with the filligree in PT, the extra carat weight, the VS1 clarity, and the color all contribute to the 2.65 being significantly more. Maybe the filligree on the PT hand-done as well? That might add to the cost also.

The ring I just got is in the same setting as the 2.42 and I love the profile.

Well, for one thing, the 2.65 y-z is in a  custom made platinum setting. As you can see from the profile, it is very low to the finger. The only way to accomplish this is to make a custom setting. This feature is very important to many people. In fact, we'll have people call us to make them a diamond ring not only because we handpick our diamonds but because we can make a custom setting that is low to the finger.

The 2.42ct is in a casting in white gold. It's a very nice casting but as you can see, it doesn't go as low to the finger. This doesn't matter to some, matters a lot to others.

The 2.42ct is a U-V which is TWO grades lower than the more saturated Y-Z yellow. (The yellow diamond scale goes U-V, W-X, Y-Z, Fancy Light yellow, Fancy Yellow, Fancy Intense Yellow, Fancy Vivid Yellow. Link to Yellow Diamond Grading Page)

For example, consider the difference in price between a D color and an F color in this size range. There is a considerable difference in price between a D and an F, for instance.

Take into account the additional 20 points in carat weight, the two grades more saturated yellow, the custom platinum setting. I know there are other points such as Y-Z price change, fluor and other points that David can address.

Congratulations DiaDiva for becoming a DBL OIW. I was on that list for quite a while before I was able to move in to the owner's list. It's worth the wait!
Both your choices are beautiful, whichever you decide!

btw i'm not an owner yet as well...  that should change soon...

OHHH I love both of the rings posted---I'd definitely say that the custom piece with the stronger color and larger size would be well worth the higher price Smiley

HI Everyone,
There's quite a few factors which go into our pricing.
In this case, many of the main factors have been idenitfied:
1) the color grade of the center diamond. Both are well cut, both have no clarity issues.,
Suprisingly, clarity plays less of a role in pricing when looking at natural fancy colored diamonds.
In the Fancy Colors, an Internally Flawless might cost no more than an eye clean SI1.

2) The differnce in price of new ring to new ring, the one with the Y-Z is totally custom made, and platinum, versus a 14karat gold ring made from a part we selected is more than double.
Add to this the fact that this ring was a trade up.
In these cases, the stone looses no value, but we do reduce the price of the ring segment.
Although we never send out a ring that shows wear, we do inform the buyer that the ring was traded up, and that it has saved them some money.
Most don't ask to have us make a new ring at addittional expense once they kniow it will look as new, and there's a money back guarantee.

Diadiva,
I am so thrilled to see you here!
