Say David, I have a question... Say you have a 1 carat well cut round sapphire and a 1 carat well cut RB.  In general, the sapphire will be smaller than the diamond right? It seems like this is true looking at gemstone mm vs. diamonds.

Curious...

 david

What got me thinking is if people put gemstones in the halo jackets you have vs. diamonds.

Yep Snoop
My RB diamond studs are .77 tcwt and my sapphire studs are .78 tcwt but the sapphires are in fact smaller than the diamonds.

If you look back to the post I did showing my jackets, you`ll see both studs, sapphire and the diamonds. There is quite a size difference i think.

maybe because the sapphire is cut deeper to have more color...  traps more light...  where as the RB the cut reflects more light, shallower...  just a guess...

Hi guys!

The cutting style of sapphires is entirely different than the cutting style of diamonds.  They are also different in their specific gravity.  In other words, a piece of sapphires exactly the same size and dimension as a diamond  not weigh the same thing.
Don't ask me which one weighs more, but they are different.

So there's differences in cutting, and differences in density.  It's smarter to use millimeter size when trying to fit jackets

OK, first post by the most anally retentive member of this group (how do I know? I just do  Evil)

Just out of interest:

Diamond density: 3.52 (assuming "pure" diamond, i.e. just carbon)
Sapphire density: 3.98 (again, assuming relatively pure corundum + a little bit of titanium and/or iron - most likely artificial)

Sooo... to have the same weight, a diamond has to be about 5% bigger in each dimension(w x h x d) than a sapphire with the same proportions. Add to this that usually colored gemstones are cut deeper than diamonds, and voila. Same size to the eye, and much more weight.
