Hi Group

Wanted to see if you could throw in your two cents on a Fancy Intense Pink Diamond that I came across. The jeweler is pricing this about $40k/Carat. Do you think that is well priced? Again these are just your first throughts and impressions. Thoughts on rest of the pieces is appreciated as well....

Also, what are your thoughts about the fluorencense on this piece...

thanks again.

Based on one photo, it seems not such a good deal when for the same price/carat you can have this...

It is an interesting color. Are you entirely sure about that SI2 rating? It seems awfully polka dotted. I thought SI2 was mostly eye clean but that could just be the diamond newb in me.

If it were my money, I would pick the one omc posted. It just looks cleaner and nicer to me and while I know inclusions can be forgiven with fancy intense diamonds (especially pinks), I would still rather have a pretty stone.

The color looks way off- of course if anyone knows how difficult it is to take photos of such things, that would be me....but the photo looks ( to my eye) nothing like Fancy Intense Pink

The color doesn't look like an intense pink diamond to my eye either...and I also thought it had too many imperfections to be anything less than a clarity of an I1 or I 2 ... IMHO.  I'm wondering if this GIA report is actually for this diamond... N1oops03HL2  (did I just say that out loud? )

I don't believe that GIA report for one minute!  Looks like someone overwrote the details in some type of bold font.  No way it's a Fancy Intense Pink or an SI2.  It's so full of carbon, it looks like someone put their cigarette out on it.  Okay, I was a little harsh, I didn't have a good day today.  I hope I didn't offend anyone.   Undecided

I pulled the GIA report and it is legit.  The weird font is just how it displays.  The stone on the other hand....I don't know that it belongs to that report.  Unless this is a highly reputable vendor, buyer beware.

Whats the size of the diamond? Also, looks kind of dark to me. More details please

HI All,
In fairness to everyone- since this is a forum sponsored by DBL, it would be inappropriate for any comments either saying a stone should be purchase from another vendor specifically- or shouldn't.

Discussion of generalities, no big deal.
But I have a responsibility, as the President- to make sure accurate info is presented.
If we have direct knowledge of a problem that can assist someone, we reach out to them privately.
But making public statements we must be careful who we endorse- or discourage folks from buying from

I know all our associates would want to be fair to anyone who posted. And also to stick to accuracy and appropriate commentary.

I looked at the link to the stone and the GIA report before reading the posts here. Before putting this thread to bed (sorry, D) – and without commenting on whether to buy or not to buy, or whom to buy from, or what to pay if you DO buy – I would like to add:

I was surprised to match that particular stone with that particular report, both in terms of my perception of the photographed stone's color and its clarity. However, there are gem characteristics which are not measured by GIA, such as crystal (my old favorite) which MAY account for what I am seeing in the photo.

Should I have the pleasure (and pocketbook) to shop for a half-carat Fancy Intense Pink diamond, I would be delighted to find an attractive SI2. That is because it is extremely difficult to find a clean pink diamond of size (by the nature of their make-up).

Also, I find that it is nearly impossible to judge a stone's fluorescence unless you see it in person. For example, it could be that medium blue fluorescence dulls or washes-out the pinkish color IRL. Or, on the other hand, it might intensify the color, making the stone appear more purplish in certain light.

So, I have just three more things to convey:

1) Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder... whether it is a beautiful FIP or a butt-ugly FIP is up to each of us to determine. And, a gem is worth as much as any one person is willing to pay for it (whether it is "fair market value" is another matter). In gemstones, there is no "right" or "wrong" in terms of color (just some colors that are valued more than others, ostensibly because they are more rare).
2) It is impossible to accurately judge the value of any gemstone from one, or even several photo(s).
3) Safest bet is to know and trust the person selling you the gemstone.
