Wasn't sure if I should post this in chit chat or here.. But this question is pertaining to my DBL studs in particular as that's all I own, but also in general...

Do push backs and la pousette backs ever "give out"?  cross I take my earrings out every  night in fear that I'll bend a post or something! tard

Will they ever "loosen up"? Currently they're like a brick! They're not going anywhere!!! but just wondering.

 david or anyone!!!

Hi Snooper,
The backs will loosen up over time- but it will take a few years- even if you take them on and off every day.
I'd say the "La-pousette" would probably stay "tight" as long, or  longer than a friction back

Those are the only backs that I will wear anymore and am slowly changing over my earrings that currently don't have them-esp. screw backs-yuck !

Good point Diamondluvr,
I don't think folks realize that screw backs are less secure if taken on and off every day.
Put on and take off your screw backs every day.....the threads will loosen up in months, not years.

I have had screw backs loosen up so quickly-its scary, I get worried that I am going to loose an earring and I also find them annoying to remove and put on daily!

I've tried unsuccessfully to find a photo of the La Pousette backs on the internet.  Does anyone have a photo? I have one pair of sapphire earrings with screw backs, and I REALLY dislike that system and I NEVER wear the earrings. All my others are push backs.  I've never had a problem loosing earrings, but some of the "better" push backs are SO tight that it can be hard to remove them without squashing the post (or my ear!).

gorks are extremely cool in our book.
But don't feel like you should know what these are...
We've sold about 4 pairs in 9 years. Since not a lot of folks know about them, few order these backs....

I actually have some diamond earrings with this back and I really love them.  I'd post but I'm not sure it is entirely legal here since they're from a certain 'blue' brand...

I have a problem with earrings falling forward, Do these La Pousette backs stop this?  I once saw a pair of large pearl studs with something like this but it was more like a wheel at the back, when I asked about it they told me it was their "special" design( a European jeweller)  so that the earring wouldnīt drop to the front.  I hate screws too, something  usually ends up on the floor and I have to get on my hands and knees to find it.

When I bought my studs they gave me these little plastic disks that you stick on the post behind your ear before putting on the backing.  It works wonders, but was very easy to lose and a little annoying to have to take so many steps.  When I went to buy another set I instead had the backs changed from screw to friction back (they are super tight) and the gave me a HUGE backing that goes right up against the back of my ear and keeps the earring nice and upright and prominent.  I will try to take a picture late, but your description of a wheel sounds similar.

So this is a terrible problem for you. I need to do some marketing research on your behalf. I'll send you my address then I'll publish the results right here on CDI for free!

What about those new "salad bowl" settings? David, are those just for larger earrings or can they work for smaller pairs as well? I'm referring to the ones Allison got.

I love the push backs, too.

Thanks for your answer.  Mind you my earrings are a bit heavy I suppose.  I have never seen these little discs that GL spoke about!  Can anyone tell me what the technical name is for the earring backs that have a "post" and a kind of clip.  A bit like the old clip on earrings but for pierced ears.  I have been told by jewellers I have "fragile" ear lobes...  That doesnīt sound very nice does it?

Some people call those Omega backs and other people call them French backs - those will still tip forward.  I use those costume jewelry backs that have the plastic discs built into them and they do work wonders but are not that secure.  You can put one of the costume backs on before you flip the Omega back - that really works too.

I actually have some diamond earrings with this back and I really love them.  I'd post but I'm not sure it is entirely legal here since they're from a certain 'blue' brand...

We have no problem with you letting us know that you have something like this.  We encourage everyone to share experiences although I'm sure you can understand that posting links or making direct references to other jewelers is something we don't allow.  We try to make this site as safe as possible for the membership and, as we can't vet every jeweler, we have to remove links and names as we find them.  Hope this makes a little sense to you and thanks for checking with us first - 'ppreciate it!   Cheesy

When I bought my DBL studs from Carathead, she'd had them reset to three-prong settings with these kinds of backs.  I love them, as they are very secure.  (I didn't know what they were called, though!)

I don't think that they will prevent earrings from dipping forward, though.  I have some heavy post earrings made by a Texas gold and silver craftsman-type company, and they have larger-diameter, heavier backs on them.  The idea is that with a heavier earring, the larger back will balance the weight.  It seems to work...

I love David's clutch backs on my diamond studs.  They have a great "click" to them and I don't have to worry about them not being secure. Great settings, even for the smallest of diamonds!  Thank you!  icon_thumleft

I found these earrings on ebay and it showed the backs and gave a description (canīt understand a word of it) but the backs looked interesting.  The earrings themselves arenīt too bad either.
The following is the description.  Does anyone understand what they are saying and have you seen these backs?

"They are individually
hand mounded and then
cradled onto 18ct white gold
with a post fitting
for pierced ears
the butterflys are secure
locking clips where by you
gently squeeze the lugs
and either place or
remove from the posts
once they are on the
post fittings they lock"

Those are la pousettes, Joia!  They have two spring loaded buttons at each side.  When you squeeze them together, the disc releases from the post and you can slide it off.  When you let go, the discs lock onto the posts.  Brilliant, BRILLIANT backs!

Yes Joia,
I have some on the cross earrings I posted the other day and they work beautifully.  Although, I must admit I'd never seen them prior to getting those and like to never figured them out!!!  SQUEEZE the back.  Very secure.

Thanks, so those are la pousettes.  Very nice too.  They sound really safe for diamond studs.  My daughter lost one earring once and had the remaining on made into a ring but it would have been much better to have not lost it.
