Most common is blue, then yellow, orange, green and white. But bear in mind to see them you need to be in an environment with relatively little visible light and a lot of UV light. In some cases the fluorescence is so strong you may see the effect as a darkening or strengthening of the "visible" colour in natural light.

HI Guys, sorry I missed this one till now.

Candy, omc gave a good answer.
In general, blue is by far the most common color in colorless stones.

With fancy colored diamonds, it depends on what color family we're looking at.
In general, I'd say blue is most common for stones in the yellow family that fluoresce- although I have seen cases of Yellow

Browns are more commonly seen with yellow florescence.
This one is a great example
ITEM #: R3392
Pear Shape Diamond, Loose

  WEIGHT: 0.72ct
  SHAPE: Pear Shape
  COLOR: Fancy Browish Yellow
  CLARITY: SI1
  MEASUREMENTS: 6.48 x 4.84 x 3.17 mm
  TOTAL DEPTH: 65.5%
  FLUORESCENCE: Strong Yellow
  GIA COLOR REPORT #: 15190903
Here's a photo of the stone

Here's two shots taken in dim lighting so you can see the effect of the uv light.

I may be a bit off topic here, but I've been meaning to ask what effect blue fluorescence has on pink diamonds.  Obviously it makes nearly colorless stones appear much whiter, but I am not sure what it does to yellow, and as for pink, I've no idea.  Does the blue cancel out some of the pink, or make the stone appear to have a light purple cast? What do you think, guys?

My opinion is limited to the few stones I have seen in person, the effect that is seen of course depends on the strength and color of fluorescence and the amount of saturation in color the stone has.  To my eyes-with will say Med. Blue Fluor in Pink diamonds, the less saturated the stone is in color---the more I notice a slight purple cast from the fluor.  The more saturated the stone---the more I notice the fluor boosting the body color.  Of course this is also dependent on the light source.  I love fluor and find it's affects really fascinating!

Fluorescence is a characteristic that makes some diamonds appear to change color when they are exposed. Diamonds with a strong or very strong fluorescence are priced slightly lower than other diamonds of the same color grade and clarity grade.

Hi all.  I absolutely love fluorescence in diamonds.  I have a DBL halo with a fancy yellow brown diamond and faint fluor.  She  is just beautiful.  Sometimes yellow, sometimes green and very rarely a "brown" tone.  I think it is the fluorescence that allows her to constantly change color.
I also have the DBL tri-color Rolling Ring.  The pinks fluoresce.  I think the effect is stunning.  It happens mostly outdoors.  My pinks become blues!  Takes my breath away.
So I ask you all, is what I'm seeing in daily life a result of fluorescence?

Sounds like it - particularly if the colour changes happen when moving from inside to outside the house.

I have a Natural, Green-Yellow Intense diamond, 1.13 carats, VS2, even saturation, Old European Brilliant Cut, with Strong Green fluorescence. I never know what color the diamond will be from day to day. Some days it's clear white, then yellow, then green/yellow, and in the sun a clear sparkling beautiful Mint green. Some days it's a dark green. I know it's the UV light but the diamond will lose color and turn completely WHITE! It's not a Chamelion - had it tested at GIA, and they loved the diamond. Got two unsolicited great comments from GIA concerning this ring, but it's a perplexing ring and sometimes the yellow looks too light. Perplexed!

Hi everyone. That does sound like an interesting diamond. I am curious about some comments you made about GIA. Was the diamond submitted to them in the ring ? Also, GIA is not permitted to make comments positive or negative about any given diamond- they only issue grades.
 What did they tell you?

The red fluoro is fun! Thanks for the photos!

BTW - I didn't welcome you to CDI yet, so welcome, and thanks for your photos of the silver ring too!

One question, if I may: any tricks that you care to share for taking UV photos? I am struggling to get anything that makes sense out of my camera.

I love fluor like that!  I think I just realized that my yellow has a bit of yellow fluor to it as well.  I haven't tried getting photos of that one (only have ones of some really strong blue) yet but I think it is so cool when they do exhibit some type fo fluor.

Thanks all for the compliments Cheesy I don't know what I love more... the stones or taking pictures of them  Wink

Thanks for the welcome OMC! Cheesy

I use a Kodak point and shoot camera, so there's really no fun DSLR tips I can give ya Sad

But the most important tips-Tripod, timer function and lots and lots of patients Cheesy

The stronger the fluor, the easier it is to capture. The weak red fluor required about a 1 second shutter speed just so you could see the fluor in the pictures.

The more non UV light you can get in the photo without destroying the effect of the fluor, the easier the photography. I was able to use a mix of incandescent bulbs and fluorescent lighting in the .35ct pictures. I just added the UV source (a black light) to the fluor shot about 6 inches away. The UV source really works best behind the stone too.
