I had also seen the C1, C2 in reference to "champagne" diamonds. Did not know they were bogus. I will say I have always been drawn to the brown-tints. Great thread!!

I'm just so bored with the report I am writing for work that I am finding "thinking about salt" more entertaining.

It's probably the most painful report I've ever tried to write. 250 pages of dry, boring, and redundant jibberish about Archaic and Woodland settlement patterns in Southeastern KY. BLEH!!!

Archaeologists ARE NOT like Indiana Jones.

He he. I've just spent the last 10 minutes remembering all the information I know about salt. How sad is that? Pretty amazing though what an important role it has played throughout history...ugh, ok, I need to stop. I'm just so bored with the report I am writing for work that I am finding "thinking about salt" more entertaining.

Oh, now you started it. Wait till bigbro sees this. He knows all about salt. Really. He can absolutely talk about salt until your ears fall off the side of your face. You guys could have a "salt talkoff".

And DJ you did not sound like a dork. I just thought it the perfect opportunity to let D know that he was better than salt!

Hi Guys,
I never meant to imply there was no value in the C1-C7 system- or that it was bogus.
It was developed as part of the sales presentation by the Argyle mines- where most of the brown diamonds come from......

When sellers of any product assign names to it, it's hype. Period.
In the case of "Champagne" the grading sysytem, and name IS an invention of the "Argyle" compnay- as was suggested earlier.

GIA will grade using clinical terms such as "Fancy Light Brown"

Oh, I guess I'm just confused.
So, to clarify...Argyle created and uses the C1-C7 system but GIA does not?

Exactamundo Jewellk.
Argyle created the C1-C7 system to help sell brown diamonds- but the system does have use if one was describing pure brown diamonds.

GIA's system has NOTHING to do with Argyle's

Wow - this thread really took off!  thanks for all the great info folks.

I used to not be a huge fan of brown diamonds, but after seeing some knockouts (like DJ's new one), my mind has changed.  It's all about finding the right ones...
