Wow, great video! I would never be able to sort rough diamonds. They all look like worthless lumps of rock to me. Maybe in person it is easier to tell they are diamonds? Amazing to see that all come together!

Thank you for sharing that Raffaele.  I hadn't seen it, and even my DSS enjoyed seeing the start from the mine to the finished piece.

Speaking from a purely economic point of view, without taking into aesthetic consideration (puerly personal).
The 7.03 ct stone is a perfect gem. Blue without secondary colors, vivid saturation, IF. Characteristics that make it clear the exorbitant price.
The second stone weighs more than double: 15.45ct. The blue, however, has the gray as secondary color; saturation is dark less valuable of the vivid.

This is a 5.16ct fancy vivid blue IF diamond. From De Beers Millennium Collection. It was sold by Soteby's, Hong Kong, April 7 2010. $6.4 milion.

the color on that is absolutely amazing, it's rare enough that i could probably overlook the slightly odd make.  yeah, i guess so, i'll take it then.  Wink  as far as shape's concerned, the pink haloed blue is making me all melty.

WOW!  There aren't any words robust enough to describe the beauty of this last stone.  Unbelievably stunning is the only thing that comes to mind.  Thanks for posting this, RaffaeleT!

I think it is a pity that they recut the Wittelsbach diamond not too long ago.  I wish the people would have thought like the guy who refused to cut it decades ago.  They lost 4+ carats on this stone when they did.  I feel it sadly cut out the historical significance of it.

Lovely stone all the same!

It is said that the stone was cut in the mid 1600s.  Estimated that it was bought in 1664.  Considering the age, I will take the window!

BVLGARI Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond 10,95ct, on Christie's auction

On October 20, as the lead highlight of its flagship Jewels: The New York Sale, Christie's will offer The BVLGARI Blue Diamond – a stunning two-stone diamond ring designed by Rome's legendary house of BVLGARI in the 1970s that's expected to fetch over $12 million. The ring features two extremely precious stones (above): a triangular-shaped, colorless diamond of 9.87 carats paired with a stunning triangular-shaped Fancy Vivid blue diamond of 10.95 carats – the largest Fancy Vivid blue diamond of this cut ever to be offered at auction. Fancy Vivid blue diamonds of this size are among the rarest of colored diamonds - only one in about 10 million will possess a color pure enough to qualify as "Fancy Vivid". The ring will be priced upon request for prospective bidders, but is expected to achieve in excess of $12 million and is positioned to become one of the top-selling diamonds at auction in 2010. The ring is being offered by a private European collector who has kept it in his family for almost 40 years.

I'm with you, saqsay1.  Don't much care for the ring, but that blue is incredible.  I had a different sort of ring in mind for two shields like this.  Of course, I've forgotten the term, but OMC is familiar: where two stones meet on top of the finger or cross each other there.

...And I like that pink EC, too - better than the one with the two little trill sides.  drool
