I posted my green diamond in the collection section but I saw David said he would comment on a ring if we gave him around what we paid.. even though this was thrown in.. on the "lifetime guarantee" slip I got from the place in Mexico.. It says $900 USD.. does this seem pretty reasonable?

I'm not David, but I'll comment all the same. I hope you don't mind.

It's a pretty ring, you like it, and that's what matters most. As to value, it's very difficult to say without knowing more about the stones, but at $900 and with the gold price where it is, you aren't running huge risks. Just don't assume you can resell it for that amount.

Thank you for commenting.. I was just curious as my mom is in a legal battle with this place and I was thinking about getting the two peices I got (this and a ruby) appraised because I wasnt sure what they said mine were worth was correct.

Hm. Bear in mind that appraiser's fees would typically run at more than $150 for appraising two items. Add court fees and legal costs, and unless the other item is much more expensive, you are onto a guaranteed loss of more money.

The guy who does all our appraisals here is a family friend and only charges us $25 but I do see your point.

Hi Reninga,
Do I understand you pair $900 for the ring?

In terms of the stated grade.....well, it's way over the top can't be true.
"Fancy Vivid Green" is one of the most costly of all the natural fancy colors.
A .27ct Fancy Vivid Green- natural as graded by GIA could easily be $10,000.

Having said that, it's still a pretty ring.
If you paid $900 it does not seem like a terrible deal

I don;t think a legal battle is winable- given the circumstances.
That being- it was purchased in Mexico- so you have little leverage.
What is the reason for the battle, if I can ask?

It is a pretty ring, but the center stone looks more like a peridot to me. Does mexico have green diamonds?

As far as I know, Mexico does not have any diamond mines. But then, neither does the US... They are pretty easy to move around!

There is Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas USA which is the only diamond producing site in the world open to the public.  You keep what you find.  The area encompasses an 37.5 acre plowed field that is the eroded surface of an ancient volcanic pipe. Most of the diamonds found by the public average below 25 points, but if you look at the site, there is a page of "famous finds", including the Kahn Canary, a 4.25 carat uncut yellow that Hillary Clinton wore to both of her husband's presidential inaugural galas.  The biggest diamond, the "Uncle Sam", was found by a farmer plowing the field (before he sold his property).  It was a white 40.25 carat stone.

The diamond finds there are stones of exceptional clarity, too.  There was a segment on the Travel Channel about the park.  The place is on my bucket list.

Here's the website link:

There's also some videos on YouTube.

Oh, there was also an episode of "A Gazillion Kids and Counting" (The Duggars) where they went to CODSP.  It was cute.

I did take it to my jeweler and he told me that it is indeed a green diamond although he said this is probably an enhanced one and not a natural green. Techically I didnt pay anything as they threw it in with our last order there.. but on the certificate of authenticity it says $900usd. The place we bought it from in Mexico is called Lapis jewelry. The reason we are in a legal battle with them is my mother got a 3ct. tanzanite bracelet with diamonds on it. They took half on her credit card when we were there and were supposed to take half when she got the bracelet (they custom made it for her). When she received it.. the workmanship was very poor and when my mom took it to our jeweler here.. it was appraised for less than half.. the small diamonds on the sides of the bracelet were poor quality and the workmanship as I stated wasnt so good. Anywho they said they would remake it for her and when it was remade, all they did was replace the same diamonds in a new band.. they were still very poor quality. So as I said there is alot to it as we have spent over $20k with this company in 3 years.
Here are a few more pictures of the green diamond ring btw:

If she paid by credit card, she has recourse there.  The few times I've had to dispute items, they were very pro-consumer.  If your local jeweler will vouch for the quality of the stones and workmanship in an appraisal, that would be a tremendous help for your mom's case, especially if there is a big discrepancy in color and clarity of stones.  If I remember correctly, the discrepancy tolerance for diamonds is two color grades and two clarity grades, but the CC companies don't know that. Documentation is key, though.  She should document conversations also.  If she's already paid the bill, she'll have a credit and can then ask for a refund check.

Can you get a shot of your ring in indirect sunlight on your finger?  I'd love to see what colors it throws off.

Is this the same Lapis Jewelry that is near Playa del Carmen?  We went there once and saw a bunch of treated green and blue diamonds there.  I've heard that they are kind of hit or miss with their stuff.  Some peole get fantastic deals and others have shoddy workmanship.

If you like the ring, then enjoy it and be happy with it!  It is a very cute looking ring!

I will do it today and post it this evening.

Glad to hear that things are moving towards a happy end. I hope they keep doing so!
Nice tanzanites - or at least, nice colour (tough to say more from the photos - even the diamonds that you are not happy with look OK there)

Lucky you guys owning a timeshare there!  We passed through while on a cruise.  I would love to go to the store again just to look some more, just for fun.

Glad to hear you might have this resolved soon though!
