I'm so happy that you're going to be getting such a great sparkler to commemorate the birth of your little girl.  It's certainly going to be a special ring.

Congrats JK!! So happy you are able to get this diamond!

Thanks everyone for the kinds words on my mom and the entire situation. I'm very happy we were able to give it to her before my dad passed away. It holds a special place for her and she is wearing it as we speak (after not wearing it at all this past month due to my dad's death).

Yes, I recall what I got as an "after birthin' baby gift". I got a dress, three weeks after the birth and only after I had a fit. When I opened the box it happened to be the exact same dress I was wearing and had, no less, worn it at least 3 times a week seeing as how little else fit.

It was BRIGHT turquoise and had pink flowers. So it was pretty distinctive. I opened the box, pulled it out and was so shocked and said gift was obviously right next the dress I was wearing. My husband said, "so do you like it?" He did not even notice that was what I was wearing!

The guys one year voted this the most egregious gift giving incident. He got the award for the clunkiest gift giver.

My DH and I had a huge fight the night before my son was born.  I had a pregnancy brain, and it was especially bad because my son was not growing well and we knew he was going to be premature and very small, with a problematic kidney.   With everything going on, I had forgotten to pay the cable bill, so our cable went out the night before I was scheduled to go in 6 weeks early for c-section.  DH freaked out on me.  Absolutely crazy.  We were just under so much stress.  So when he gave me my baby gift that same night, he sort of tossed it at me.  A very plain white gold bangle he said was all he could afford (not quite).  Anyway, after the birth of our son he totally made up for it with 2 beautiful cards - one from him and one "from" our newborn son, along with a gigantic blue teddy for our son that he is still not as big as almost 4 years later.  I still cherish both more than any piece of jewelry I will ever own.

Congrats Jewellk!  This ring is going to be stunning, as will your little sweetheart!

You have got to be kidding me WM!?!  WOW!  I'm surprised you didn't reciprocate with a concussion....... Grin

Aw GL.  What a lovely story!  You know there are so many of us who sympathize with the 'pregnancy brain' which the only becomes 'mommy brain' - it never does get back to pre-pregnancy sharpness huh?!  So glad everything worked itself out.  Your DH sounds like a sweetheart.

Jewel - very much looking forward to seeing this completed!  This stone knocked my socks off the first time I saw it and I am itching to see it set and looking HUGE with a halo!  I have to say though, you may not be able to wear your rings for a couple of weeks after the birth.  While my fingers were fine up until labor, they looked like sausages for a while afterwards.

Nnnoooooo!!!!!! Ugh. Oh well, I'll just hold my human baby in one arm and my diamond baby in the other and gaze adoringly at both until I can squeeze it on my finger!

GL...completely understand "pregnancy brain!" I've been a little "off" lately, I cried while watching that stupid Mandy Moore movie "A Walk To Remember" yesterday. Non-pregnant me wouldn't be caught dead watching that movie (basically about two 16 year olds who get married b/c she's dying of cancer and doesn't believe in premarital sex)...much less CRYING over it. I'm so embarrassed! Embarrassed

Anyway, we are under alot of stress and I KNOW if this baby comes early, DH will totally LOSE it and freak out. Our house is literally chaos right now, no kidding at all! 4 dogs, two cats, the room we are making into the nursery is impenetrable due to boxes stacked about 4 ft high, I can't even get to our washer and dryer to wash clothes due to all the tools stacked up in the laundry room, our bedroom has two paths--one to my side of the bed and one to his, the room we are renovating as our room just got a coat of primer but the floors have to be refinished, the dining room has all the baby furniture and Christmas boxes stacked wall-to-wall with one path leading through to the kitchen (we can't get to the attic to store the Crhistmas stuff due to the renovations upstairs), and the garage work has been delayed by about three weeks due to the weather. All this and our baby is due in 7 weeks. Do we have a FREAK OUT SMILEY???!!!!???

This reminds me of a story that my mother tells about when I was an infant. She already had two daughters and we lived in tiny military housing. As they were preparing to move (yet again), the house was in complete chaos (like you described yours). And she tells how the only safe place they could find for me to sleep in thier room was................ a dresser drawer! Pulled it out, stuck some baby blankets and padding in there, and that was my bed for a while! LOL

JewellK....I know you are freaking out!  I remember those last few months of both of my pregnancies!  I know you have heard of the term "nesting"..... It is like everything around you has to have that "perfect nest" before the baby comes.   I did that in a major way.......but once that baby was in my arms...................it was like .........WHO CARES!  Nothing else mattered.........(other than sleep!!) LOL! Wink   But you will get through it....this is so normal and try to relax and enjoy!   She will be here before you know it.....(the baby that is)!!LOL!   You two will be great parents!~Ronda

 freakout

This "freakout" is not easy to find because it looks innocent for a second before it freaks out. And by that time I'm looking at the booby dancing banana.
