I'm wondering about the cutter too - David, how would the cutter for this be selected? One just doesn't seem to hear about the great cutters in the general public; is that more well known in the trade? Do you know who the cutter is who did this stone?

I seem to remember you talking about one of your favorite cutters preferring to stay out of the limelight with respect to his profession. Is that preference of anonymity or low proflle common? Is it for security's sake?

I know only a little about this. I'd like to know more, too. How do you become the "chosen".

HI Everyone!

Today, the art of cutting diamonds is combined with unbelievable technology. The rough diamond is measured by a computer which can plot out the finished diamond before the cutter even starts.
Still- a true master will be able to utilize the machine far better than a beginner.

Cutters start out as apprentices .
At first they work on industrial grade diamonds to get the feel.

But if you have a piece of rough that might yield a million dollar diamond, you know you've going to get someone who's been doing it for a long time

Colored diamonds looks best on step cuts particularly asscher. I think the blue diamond will look it's best with two icy white diamond side stones or a halo pave set diamonds.

A diamond of that calibre and rarity are suited for celebrities, royalties or business tycoons. Unfortunately I'm none of the above.

I can only dream of it for now.

Me, too. They rarely cut colored rough into step cuts. I love it when they do.

Cutting colored diamonds into step cuts enhances color but showed more flaws. And when it comes to colored diamonds, color is more important than clarity so I wonder why they cut most colored diamonds into radiant shapes.
