Hi all, I am new here! I bought a 2.2ct greenish gray diamond that comes with a lab report. The report state that there is indication of colour enhancement. Wonder what is the price range of this kind of diamond? And should I send it for GIA as I was told there is no colour enhancement?

HI e-pin,
Thanks for posting!

We constantly re-enforce the warning that GIA is the only lab consumers should trust.
IN a case like this, a lab report stating enhancement is probably an exception to this rule- it's very likely the stone is treated.
The caution is the non GIA labs not noticing problems- not that they call stones worse than they really are. If that makes sense.
What type of lab report is there?

I think you should send it back to the vendor, given that they told you it was not enhanced but you have a lab report to prove the contrary. Don't throw away more money on a GIA report; if the vendor wants, he can have it graded at his expense by GIA to convince you that he was right the first time and there is no enhancement, although I strongly doubt that will be the case.

I hope you paid with a credit card, to make the task of getting your money back easier...

Best of luck.

Hey there,

I am not sure which lab did your first report, but I would strongly suggest getting a GIA report (ideally, the vendor would pay for it if you share your dilemma with them). Compared to other labs, your report will be unbiased and scientific, and they are hands down the most respected by jewelers. I think it's worth knowing what you really bought. Hope this is helpful and sorry you are dealing with this!
