Last ones, incl. an attempt at 'candlelight shot'.  Kiss   (could do with more practice shooting under dim lights..)

She's a real beauty, DH.  Perfection, really.  Definitely the right choice.  I'm a big fan of the cushion as well as the split shank and this one's a stunner.  So, when are you proposing?  Inquiring minds (masquerading as nosy forum members) want to know!

Grin  It's driving me crazy too... and come to think of it, once she found out I had it with me for ___ whole months, she'd be mad as hell, won't she?  Undecided  Would you?

Thanks for the kind words. I gotta admit I had suffered some ring envy and buyer's remorse post purchase, wondering if I had bought a winner. Yeah, typical Libra failings. So I took the ring on photoshoots just to see how it performs. I must say you're absolutely right, GL. There's absolutely nothing I shd worry about concerning this ring...except maybe it will be a little loose (my GF gave me the wrong info - she's really a 5.75  Undecided)

I haven't set a date yet but I thought I'd do some scouting around this week to find a good location for the proposal.

Aww, I'm sorry you went through that phase of doubting your purchase. I always get that. Not because I don't love what I have, but because I fear there was something else that I should have picked instead. I'm a little crazy over these things, though. Grin

You picked a beautiful ring, just beautiful.

You need to propose, though! The perfect location is the one you are in RIGHT NOW (assuming she's with you of course). As they say in the adverts, just do it!  Wink

I totally agree!

I cannot imagine that there is one woman out there who, after being proposed to, hands the ring back and says, "Sheesh, I really wish you had waited longer..."  If there is, bring her to me and I will knock some sense into her!   1087

Wow - the photos are great!  I'm sure you've got nothing to worry about, post purchase, with pics like that!  But I get it - I have doubts when making a large purchase of any kind - it's only natural.  But gosh, really, you could say you paid twice as much for that ring, and i'd believe you.

Not to be the voice of reason here or anything, and I'm firmly in the 'propose right away' camp on this......but is it worth getting the ring resized before you propose?  She'd probably love to be able to wear it right away (and forever).  I know i'd be annoyed with you for holding on to that ring for so long - but i'd also want to be able to wear it right away - the torture of knowing I had such a beautiful ring and then letting it go to get resized....

Rubymyu has a good point about sizing. If it was me, I'd be more likely to part with a limb than that ring, even for a few days! How big a size difference are we talking?

LOL, GL. She's been teasing me every week "So when are you going to propose?"
Kept telling her, "I can't tell you but it's gonna happen this year for sure."  Grin

Wow. And I thought I was the only one who gets struck by doubts after purchasing a diamond.  Now I'm agonising over the to-resize-now-or-later decision. I'm not sure how big a problem this is going to be. 5.75 fits snugly while 6 seems loose enough to drop the ring if you happen to fling the hand (as in surprise). But I too wd hate sending the ring for a resize after proposing.

For a hefty ring like this split shank platinum, which would be the better option? To wear it slightly loose or snug? I'd rather not commit to a resize without her actually trying this ring. Is there anything you can attach to the base of the ring to make it a little tighter? I know it's not an elegant solution...

The other major concern is the potential damage to the pave set and cushion if I were to resize it locally. We'd be devastated if that happens.

I think she needs to try it on before making decisions about sizing, to be honest. I find that a thicker / wider band is a snug fit, while a narrow / thin band in the same size is a little loose. It's a hard one to decide on without seeing it on her hand.

If you're worried about losing it, you can buy temporary ring guards, little plastic tubes that fit round the back of the shank, from Claire's Accessories (or similar stores). NOT a long term fix at all, but would be enough to keep it safely on her finger for a day or two if it was too big.

Personally, I'd want it to go back to DBL for sizing, unless you have a local bench jeweller you'd trust with your life. I believe such people are rare...

I have to agree on this one.  I can wear either a 6.75 or 7.00 on the right hand depending on the thickness of the shank.  The thicker the shank, the more comfortable a size 7.00.  Also, some folks like their rings to be a little looser than others.  I think you're safe to keep the ring sized as it is, and let her make the decision about sizing.  Besides, if you do end up sending it back for re-sizing after the proposal, it would be the perfect opportunity to have David make a nicely matching band.  With the ring in hand and your GF's input, David could make a band that would fit snugly against the side of the split shank for a perfect match.

This YEAR?Huh??  If you were my BF you may not have survivied the evening!!!

I am in the propose now, resize later camp.  I always err on the size bigger, as my fingers expand/contract with the weather, and I would much prefer some spinning to not being able to get my ring on (HORRORS!).

Another important thing to consider with the sizing is that she will be wearing it with a wedding band down the road, and it will then sit higher up on her finger, which means it may need to be a little loose now.  Has she tried on two rings together and seen if the 5.75 is still ideal?

All in good time... Many women grew up dreaming of the perfect wedding to the perfect guy. Surely a well thought out proposal from her man would be a worth a little wait?  Smiley

GL, we haven't tried similar looking rings + WB combo. I don't wish to risk letting on too much. But yes, I will have to remember that bit of advice. Thanks for the tip, GL, Jen.

IF a resize is necessary, I'd trust DBL with the job BUT to insure and 2-way-ship the ring across the globe for a 0.25 resize seems rather excessive to me. Perhaps I'm putting the cart before the horse here. I just have to assess it with the ring ON her finger. Now that's reason enough to bring forward the proposal wouldn't it?  Wink   But Mikla's idea is a good one.

1/4 size is not much at all.  My finger size CHANGES by almost a FULL size depending on what I've eaten, how much I've worked out, etc.  On rock-climbing days, for instance, I usually can't get my rings on at all.

So, when combined with the wedding band issue, I would DEFINITELY wait.

Just so long as you get over that buyers remorse, DH.  Jeez, you doing 17 again or what?  You wait too long with that ring your pocket and she finds out you waited next to forever, and you''ll be lucky for only a small concussion from a cast iron frying pan or other kitchen implement! thewife

Jumping Jiminy, buddy.  She KNOWS you love her.  She KNOWS you know she loves you.  Get over the family issues. Drop and give her 10 - mea culpa's.  She'll forgive you the minute she understands you hesitated because you wanted it perfect for her.  Talk about Queen of your Universe!  You two can better figure out how to deal with her family together than speculate apart.  I understand there are some severe culteral issues, especially with second marriages.  It's unfortunate, but in this world, these things can happen.  No one is immune. Just ask the Duchess of York and Prince Andrew. You can't control it, and you can't stop it.  Bad things can just happen.  The question is, are you both strong enough to work together through them?

I think you are, DH. Now it's time to show us your confidence in the lady of your heart..  Besides, we want to meet her!   She's got to be something special. tongue3 Heart

DH put the ring on her finger and face the World and it`s wife together, including her family. They`ve only once to know that you and her are going to be together forever so it may as well be sooner rather than later.

Plus, I want to see handshots and hear what she thinks of the ring...

On 09.06.09 at around 6 pm, I proposed. She said 'YES.'   Grin
Check out the funny story in the new thread I posted under 'Wedding/Anniversary'. Posted hand shots too.

She absolutely loves it! 'It's classic and elegant, and so 'ME'!' That's what she said.  Smiley She was astounded by the amount of effort I put in to get her the perfect ring.

One problem though. The ring is too big for her. Turns out she really wears a 5.5 not a 6. Bummer. Now I got to see how best to have it resized. She'd hate to be parted form it.   Undecided
