I've been browsing the DBL website for a little while now and I keep coming back to this pretty lil thang: http://rockdiamond.c...aser-inscribed-r3921

Gosh she's pretty, isn't she?! I'm thinking about asking Hubby for this for my birthday/Christmas present... or maybe Valentines since we do have a few trips coming up.

I'm also really, really liking this beauty: http://rockdiamond.c...aser-inscribed-r3922
Maybe I'll ask for it instead. It seems like it has more personality that the first one. Ach, decisions, decisions.

Anyway, my questions are:

1. On the other radiant cut rings, the prongs seem to be placed on the cut corners. Do the prongs have to be put there or would a bezel setting work?

2. If you use side stones or a halo, do you prefer to lighter or darker than your center stone?
Any opinions on which really makes the center pop?

3. What color metal would look best with a diamond described as "buttery"? I personally prefer white gold and platinum - that would look right, right?

4. If a customer really wants a stone like one that has sold, is it possible to place an order for a similar stone? (Such as a pretty pair of yellow diamond earrings)

1. A bezel setting would work just fine. This is Sunny, clwgli's stone, 0.92 Y-Z IIRC, set in a YG bezel.

2. It depends on the effect you want, and the colour difference, and the colour of the centre stone. For a light yellow like the two stones you picked I would use H-I sides set in white metal, and set the centre in yellow.

3. It depends. If you want the colour to pop, then you should use yellow around the centre - the rest of the ring can be white. If you set an O-P/Q-R/S-T in white in my opinion it doesn't look good at all, because the white metal tends to "bleach" the tint, and those colours are not strong enough to take bleaching kindly.

4. Absolutely yes.

I came back to edit my post because I just saw Diamondluvr's E-W bezel set radiant and I decided I think the bezel is simply gorgeous. Sunny is another stunning example!

OMC, thanks so much for answering. I've never seen a colored diamond in person (that I know of) and I'd hate to do it wrong when I get one.

Another question. Is the reason the first one looks whiter but has a S-T color vs. the second ones' more yellow color with Q-R color the flourescense?

In any case, I like them both and I shall be starting my Bling Fund right away so that I have a little birthday sunshine for myself.

well as the owner of Sunny, I have to say bezels work *very* well for radiants.  After having her set both ways, I'd definitely prefer the bezel.

You are looking at two favorite stones of mine right now.  Particularly the .43 S-T radiant.  That one stole my heart but I want to see how finances are after vacation before I pounds.

David can proably answer better but here are my guesses.

First every stone has a range of colors.  It could be that this S-T is on the light end of the range while the Q-R is on the dark end.  Add in the strong blue fluor (my favorite part of the S-T) and it would look whiter.

Adding a bezel would definitely bring out the color in either one.  With my radiant (it is a .93 Y-Z so OMC was close) I notice an extreme color change due to this pretty bezel.  Only very rarely and at odd angles/lighting does it not take on a more yellowish appearance.

I'll be honest and say I was halfway thinking of setting the .43 S-T in rose gold.  Just to see what it would do.

You can always ask for photos of the diamonds side by side and even next to higher and lower colors to see what you think.  In the mean time have fun saving up for the new bling LOL

As for getting a stone similar to one that is sold, that is highly possile.  My Sunny wasn't listed.  I saw a few stones that I liked, but none were exactly right.  David had her and it was like a match made in heaven.  So definitely ask aout past diamonds.  He's good at finding stones.

David won't let you.  Evil

Fluorescence is one reason, lighting is a second one and camera calibration is a third. David uses different cameras and even just white balance adjustment on one camera can have a significant influence on the resulting colour.
