I've decided that while waiting for my perfect pink diamond, I would order a pink lemonade ring. David has a beautiful Y-Z cushion that's 1.35 ct that I am going to purchase. Now I want your advice on settings. I was all set to order one of the new Uber settings with gold prongs for the diamond, pink gold for the pink diamonds, and platinum for the band. We would increase the pink diamond size to .015 so that halo size would increase. Since the yellow cushion measures aprox 6.5 x 5.3/4 mm this would still not be a large ring even with the halo. In addition I'm concerned that the Uber setting shows so little metal that maybe I would miss seeing the pink gold- but the workmanship on the Uber rings soooo pretty.
Or would you set it in the Hal 1 setting with the usual gold, pink, platinum setting and have the milgrain edging which I love- it looks so vintage. It makes a much larger halo, but the pink diamonds are much smaller- or even set it all in pink gold as an option, too. The Uber setting adds a couple of thousand to the price. Which would you choose- HELP me decide!!!!!

For you, this is what I would pick.  Yes the uber is lovely but I get the feeling that you really want the pink gold and milgrain.  Now is it possible to do a uber that would marry the two?  Delicate work yet more metal where you would want it with larger diamonds?

Oops- forgot one more option which would be the most expensive, but could be incredible. Setting the ring like 3177- it would then look like a yellow and pink flower!

I think it might start to get pretty costly- and I think with the knife edge technique they do it would be hard to add more pink gold around the sides.

How about a double halo.  You could do either white or pink gold.  Obviously, pink diamonds would give more of a pink effect.  With a double halo, you might be able to go with the smaller diamonds, which would make the center stone look bigger.

Oh- you're right!!  I think that would be like the setting we're talking about doing except with larger pink diamonds.

What do you think of the flower idea-3177 with the yellow center and pink petals like in 3478?

I did think about that, but liked the larger diamonds rather than 2 halos. If I were doing it on a colorless stone, I'd definitely think about 2 halos- first colorless and second pink!

Jpup, i'll quote Trinkette for you, and more sound advice I have never received.

She's told most of us to imagine that your jewelry box contains each of the rings you are considering.  Take each one out, admire it, try it on, , put it back in the box.  Open the box again, which one does your eye seek first?  Do this a bunch of times, change the scenario to suit, but try to get a feel for which one comes to the forefront the most often.  That's probably the one you want the most and will please you best.

IMO you need to take the Trinkette jewelry box advice.  The difference between the two is pretty darn big.

Both are beautiful, but you need to decide what fits you and your style.  What will you want to wear every single day.

Now the setting with the pink halo that I linked to, I could see with larger pinks and it would look fantastic.  Doing pink & yellow like a flower is a beautiful idea as well.  Both will turn heads... but what will make your heart sing?

Well, I can see all sorts of pluses and minuses to both options.*

I'm crazy in love with my Hal1 setting, but still I crave an Uber ring. Does that help at all?  Grin  Trinkette's Virtual Jewel Box will help (it really does. I use it every time I'm plotting a purchase and I haven't gone wrong yet) but sadly, when I open that box in my head, I can see an uber setting as well as my gorgeous vintagey Hal1.

Now, the uber setting does show less metal, but it's still pink and it's still going to boost the colour of the pink melee. I don't think the pink metal would be lost, because although the metal work is very fine (in every sense of the word) it's also strong and pretty. The immaculate high polish makes it less obviously metal, I think, but you'll still get the colour.

On the other hand, Hal1 is a fine semi mount and you'll see more pink metal. If this is an 'extra' ring while you're waiting, it may be the more economical choice.

On balance though, if I could possibly swing an uber ring, I would be going for that. I really, really want one.  Wink

*eta that wasn't entirely true. I can't find a minus. Sorry. I tried.  Grin

thank you - that is great advice. I'm trying to picture each one on my finger, Too bad I can't actually try each one on (LOL).

I originally dismissed the flower as I think of it as dressier- but it would be a beautiful ring, I think and very different than anything I own.  4

Both of the others would be rings I'd wear all the time.  Sigh N1i'mconfusedHL

Right! In the meantime though, if you can swing it, I'd be criminally negligent not to recommend the uber settings. They're just....uber!  Grin Oh, how I want one. If you get one, can I live vicariously through you? Can we pretend that it's mine too? I could send you a photo of my hand and you could photo shop it on...

Who's that?

The flower ring would be lovely really.  So would the uber.  So would Hal1.  Yeah I suck at deciding.  I always sleep on thing and go with what I like best after some thought.

That would be you, clgwli!  Grin

My vote would be for a) one of each and b) the uber ring.  There. Are we helping at all?

Ha, ha- you all are not helping me decide which  4 I need.   If we go with the Uber ring the pink diamond size in the halo would be like r3938-so it should increase the pink factor. My right hand ring finger is about a 6 and 1/2- do you all think the ring would look large enough. I know the Hal 1 would cover nicely, but I wonder how much the halo on the Uber would add with the larger diamonds. Does anyone have an idea?

I don't know exactly the measurement of the uber halo, but halos generally seem to add more than just the mm measurement. They just seem to make the stone look more.

I don't think there's much to choose in terms of size, but the pink diamonds will be more defined in the uber-ring, while the pink gold will be more prominent in Hal1.

Well, when you find your perfect pink, how would you set that? Would you rather it be in Hal 1 or uber set? I'd decide that first and then choose the other one for the yellow.

Personally, Hal 1 is one of my favorite settings so that is first choice for myself.

Well, I probably wouldn't do the Hal 1 for the pink, so that's a good point. that may help me decide. thank you!!

Awesome suggestion there!!

I'd go for whatever you don't want to do for the pink for the other ring.  Really you cannot go wrong with either.

Give me a hand shot and I'll uber it up Wink

I hope to see one of these rings in person in Oct.... hopefully one will be in stock then at least.

I hate to make this more confusing but jpup gave me a great idea ( inadvertently)

How about setting this stone

in this setting= except, we'll use pink diamonds for the halo......

OK- actually we started the ring today, so asking for opinions makes it a little late....

Oh good, David, I'm glad you posted that. I gave the ring number to look at, but still can't seem to be able to upload photos. I was trying to say that this was another option. Since this stone is so close to mine- when is it going to be ready?Huh? Wink
