Man, do I have to do everything around here?

« on: June 26, 2011, 09:25:36 AM »

Hi Everyone!

Okay, the last time we did this was 2007, so I'm thinking that it would be fun to have  updated threads for all the new CDI'ers that have joined our family. (Don't worry we won't resurrect Survivor Diamond Island...I don't have the strength).

We always get requests from you guys asking for advice or thoughts on diamonds and pieces, so I thought I'd start a series of threads with the top picks of Annie, Miz M and myself.  They don't know it yet but...heck...my motto is jump in feet first and work the details out later.  HA!!!!!  BTW...they LOVE when I do stuff like this...buwhahaha.  Wink

Each thread will have ideas in a different price range.  We will share with you our thoughts on the stone/pieces we have chosen as well as perhaps offering setting suggestions or linking to items that co-ordinate well. We'll start with $1000 and under, then $1001 to $2,500, followed by $2501 to $5,000, then $5,001-$10,000 and finally $10,000 and over.

Recommendations in the $1,000 and under range coming shortly.......

Enjoy,
djm

Here are my picks for this price range.

First up are these beautiful yellow radiant stud earrings. We can't seem to keep these in stock.  I believe that yellow diamond stud earrings should be a staple for every diamond enthusiast because they are so versatile. For those that are interested, I am positive that David can source out a pair in this price range.

This particular pair is .54 ctw in 18kt yellow gold and priced at only $995.  My DW has a pair of yellow radiant studs and she wears them more than her white rounds. She loves them!!! They go beautifully with golden south sea pearls as well as any yellow gold necklace you have sitting in your jewlery armoir.

My next pick is the Sapphire and Diamond Halo Earrings- bright blue and white 14kt white gold R3297.  As everyone has seen recently there has been a huge demand for floral design in jewlery right now. It is Princess Di meets Retro 70's floral chic...very fashion forward. The 2011 version is more floral with a touch of royality. Check out men's ties and women's print dresses for Spring and Summer. You'll  notice that there is a big emphasis on Pucci style and big foral prints. As the fashion industry goes so follows the home accessories market....check out the retro floral prints from Pottery Barn when you get a chance.  I digress...

Okay, so that brings us back to these little beauties. Here is your opportunity to own something fresh and fashion forward without breaking the bank. They are easily dressed up and can be dressed down...making them the earring you can wear all week long. My wife has a pair very similar to this and pairs them with her white denim jacket (also very popular right now). She pops her collar and man, she looks like a million bucks.  alarm alarm  alarm
These are priced at only $699.00

My final pick for this group is this brown rough diamond just under 2 cts. R2558 I would love to see this guy made up as a pendant with gold wire spiral encasing it. So very cool. This is priced at a mere $499.00 and has so many possibilities.

Hey, DJM, nice picks.  With the rough, would you consider a light polishing to smooth her out?  I could see her that way.

ooOOooohh!!  What a great idea for a new topic!  I'm tossed up on the earrings, since blue is my favor color and sapphires are my birthstone, but I think I'm going to have to go with the yellow radiant studs.  Now, that brown diamond, I would have cut into a yummy piece of burnt sugar to stare at on my hand all day Smiley

I like this game!  Those sapphire earrings are some of my favorites.

My first pick was easy.  I own this ring, and I wear it all.the.time.  The color of the diamonds is beautiful, and the 18kt yellow gold is rich and creamy.  David needs new pictures of this baby because it looks 10x better in person.

My second pick is this adorable sapphire necklace.  DBL bezels are always lovely, and this necklace has beautifully cut colorless diamonds bezel set on the chain.  This is another one where I don't think the pictures do it justice.

Neat idea, DJM. We probably don't say it enough (ever) round here, but you do have some good ideas... Grin

Annie's first choice is also mine, because I'd love a set of these in pink, yellow and white (and blue...) for stackers, but also because I just got a ring with a yellow centre and this band would be heavenly with it.

From a less selfish point of view, I like it because it's a real pop of color without destroying your bank balance / credit rating / chances of eating today...   Evil

Ok, for my next choice, a favourite shape and favourite colour range combine in a nice affordable stone at a decent size to get noticed. This one just looks like more:
http://rockdiamond.c...aser-inscribed-r3924

Such a sparkly thing, with a gorgeous organic shape to it. Just exactly the kind of pear I love. It also has that wonderful crystal quality that Trinkette first brought formally to my attention and which I now can't get enough of.

It's a tad bigger than my pear cut necklace, and that packs a fair punch, so I'd say this one could stand on its own in a ring or necklace and be a bit of a show stopper. If it was mine, I'd bezel it in warm, lovely rose gold and either have it on a rose gold chain, or a white chain with DBTY. The setting would bring it slightly over the $1k mark, but you could save for it, right?

Oh, wait - you're not actually offering to spend $1k on us, DJM? I didn't read the instructions carefully enough (also, I was hanging back a little until he got to the $50k and above thread... Wink)

Okay...I'm going to be completely transparent and totally honest here....I get very territorial with some of my picks because I want them ALL...This is hard for me to draw attention to them.... The first group, not so much because DW already has similar pieces...it's when I get to the other price groups that I will be swallowing hard. LOL.

I'm working on it...

Anyone else feel that way?

phew...that was hard to admit...

At the moment, when something that's been tempting me is re-homed ("sold" is the wrong word...) I heave a sigh of relief, to be honest! Grin

Some one needs to buy this pear, because I've now spent just a tad too long looking at it all over again today. Wink

OMG. I just realised what needs to happen to my ("my"?) pear.

Would it not just be perfect in a setting like this!? Ring or pendant would be fine.

I love this thread seeing what you guys would pick.

I have to say my favorite is Jen's though.  Well I should say that's my son's favorite.  He really loves that diamond and the similar but warmer pear R3923

For those of you who have not seen THE PEAR in person, the pictures do not do her justice.  She is more beautiful in person and absolutely lovely on the finger.

What a great thread!
I´m just loving all these!
So far my favorite is the pear. She looks like so much MORE! I could totally see her as pendant.

I try  Grin

He actually startled me liking that pear.  He says they would make for pretty earrings.  He's so cute like that.  Has fantastic taste in general I think.
