Not to confuse the issue here but I always loved this three stone...R1519

Check out this hand shot...BEAUTIFUL!! I really like the step cut sides and scale of this one.

I am quite the eagle eye when it comes to inclusions.  Black is just too obvious to my eye.  Give me a good feather or crystal and while I "might" see it, my brain really doesn't care.  David can do a photo straight on, at 8 inches, and that might put you at ease with the visibility (or lack of!) of the inclusion.

Something is holding you back, something not quite right.  I know if I have to convince myself, it just isn't right.  When I find the right combo, or close enough that a compromise is easy, bam! What if you could swap out the side stones?  Change the metal?

Hmmm. I see your dilemma. Go for color or clarity. I must admit that I like both rings. I think the the color on the first one is the deal breaker. Who could resist a diamond that looks like a FIY? I think that is the one I would choose...... The great thing with DBL is you can always trade up in the future. Either way... you get some nice finger real estate.  gogirl5

Blond-Moment Ok...girlfriend....here's the dealio....that brownish yellow is actually my favorite color, so I completely understand....but if you give me an inch, I will take a mile, so when you mentioned the second ring, I immediately pushed it the extra mile and added $1000 to your budget...I am sorry.

Plus, David has an excellent return policy, so if you get the first ring and you hate it, return it.  There might be a chance that you don't even see the feathers in the first ring....or you can only see it rarely and it doesn't bother you.   Sometimes David's camera is too good.  In the video of the first ring, I cannot even see anything but straight SPARKLE!  Like I said before...that brownish yellow with just enough brown to make it look like a fancy intense and so unusual that the chances of you seeing another one like it are one in a million.

I do still think you should get the little necklace one later as a pressy....I can't help it...it is in my blood.   Evil

Well, to confuse you further, here is another set of arguments in favour of one particular ring:

#1: R2851. Not at all concerned with the inclusion. If you can't see it easily at 15/20x with the stone standing perfectly still (which is what the photos are, and in some it is visible, in some it isn't), you won't see it at 1x with the stone (or your eyes) moving. It has a nice spread, and it's priced well under the others, thanks to Ms Brown, Mr Gold and agent I1.

The rest: not that there is anything wrong with them - quite the opposite - but they are decidedly easier to find. I am counting about 2 times as many Y-Z and 4 times as many FLY as FbY. I suspect part of the reason is that to find a nice, golden FbY it takes a fair amount of time; in many of them the brown element results in a beigy kind of colour, which is not particularly interesting.

I read this thread again and I wanted to toss out some links for you to look at.  If I had about $10K to spend on a yellow-y diamond ring I'd look into these

http://rockdiamond.c...ng-w-tapered-bullets

http://rockdiamond.c...ond-ring-wtrilliants

http://rockdiamond.c...-a-rare-beauty-r3695

http://rockdiamond.c...ly-lemon-shade-r3740

http://rockdiamond.c...tinum-trapezoid-ring

http://rockdiamond.c...yellow-vs2-gia-r3867

http://rockdiamond.c...-lemon-sparkle-r3281

http://rockdiamond.c...num-ring-w-baguettes

http://rockdiamond.c...ncy-yellow-vs2-r3393

http://rockdiamond.c...ant-gia-beauty-r3346

http://rockdiamond.c...llow-radiant-diamond

http://rockdiamond.c...lliant-platinum-ring

Okay lots of choices and I am not trying to confuse you.  Go by your gut feeling and rate each of these from 1-10.  Just read the listings and give your initial reaction.  Don't go thinking, go with what your heart says.

Then rank them in order based on what "score" they got.  If some tie, that's fine just list them in order within that score.  Some will tie since there are 12.

There is a method to this "madness" trust me Wink

I haven't looked at the prices at all. Just at whether I liked the ring as a whole - which results in some unexpected placements of nice centres because of the setting.

This is my list - without ties.

1. R3695 - 1.03 EC FY VS1
2. R2851 - 1.47 Cushion FbY I1
3. R907 - 1.10 Radiant FY VS2
4. R1421 - 1.38 Cushion FLY SI1
5. R3740 - 1.67 Radiant Y-Z SI1
6. R3393 - 0.90 Cushion FY VS2
7. R3281 - 1.38 Radiant FLY VS2
8. R1601 - 1.30 Radiant Y-Z VVS1
9. R3346 - 1.01 Radiant FboY SI1
10. R1545 - 1.16 Radiant Y-Z VS2
11. R3867 - 1.13 Radiant FLY VS2
12. R1516 - 1.27 Radiant FY SI2

from which one may deduce that for me: I love step cuts. Ring design dominates everything else. Colour next, size next, Shape and clarity indifferent. Unfortunately can't say anything about cut because they are all nice from that point of view...

I haven't done it myself since I am too fresh on finding them myself.  But OMC hit on it, you will find what you really look for with a ring if you don't think, look at prices or anything like that.

Once you list them in order without trying to think hard, it becomes more clear as to what you love... whether it is a style, a color, or a generic feel.

Someone said that we subconsiously list our real first choice always when listing three options.  Though some do it last (save the best for last), but it's one or the other.

I'll do my list later.  Right now I'm going through music for my church... and my son just woke.  I'll be interested to see what I like first, though the most memorablee to me is that emerald halo which says something Smiley

I wanted to take more time so I could "forget" which ones I listed and forget the prices too.

Here is my list...

1. R3740 - 1.67 Radiant Y-Z SI1
2. R3695 - 1.03 EC FY VS1
3. R3867 - 1.13 Radiant FLY VS2
4. R1545 - 1.16 Radiant Y-Z VS2
5. R1601 - 1.30 Radiant Y-Z VVS1
6. R1421 - 1.38 Cushion FLY SI1
7. R3393 - 0.90 Cushion FY VS2
8. R3281 - 1.38 Radiant FLY VS2
9. R907 - 1.10 Radiant FY VS2
10. R1516 - 1.27 Radiant FY SI2
11. R2851 - 1.47 Cushion FbY I1
12. R3346 - 1.01 Radiant FboY SI1

Best I can see I like the softer yellow in radiants the best, though I really do love that emerald.  The stone is what speaks to me first and foremost.  I am not shocked by that.  I am always drawn to the main stone first and then the reset after.  Probably because I was drawn to Sunny first and then the setting came a year later.

I think this shows that I am a huge fan of lighter colors and that speaks to me more than anything else.

didimiss  I miss one day and look what happens. I'm getting ready to put my monsters to bed and I can not get them there soon enough. Can't wait to make my list!! Just want to give you all an update...I think I have my hubby 1/2 way there on the first one. I didn't even talk to him about the others because I really do love that center stone (Inclusion and all). The color just gets me and it has tons of sparkle to boot. So when Shiba suggested poss. changing the side stones I thought "wow great idea." So i am going to look into that with David and see what he can muster for me. Thanks Shiba just with that comment alone it made me realize that those side stones on the second ring were what really turned me on to that one. My dream would be to switch those stones out and put them in the first but I doubt I'd get that lucky.

Thanks again all of you DBLers. You guys really did put me right where my heart led me in the first place! Awww I just had a moment with you all haha. Can you feel the love?    grouphugg

Still doing the list just cuz it sounds fun!

Thanks Again  Heart

Kris - That Fancy yellow brown looks like a vivid or intense to me. It's the perfect brownish yellow. I think the kicker is that it is one of those diamonds you won't find often. And the half moons just finish it off so well. I have to tell you that I would buy an I1 in a heartbeat from DBL. I've seen many of the I1s in person and even ones with black spots don't show. The inclusions will be lost in the deep color which is why I1s don't bring the price down as much in a colored diamond.

I love the second ring as well but that depth of color of the first is pretty amazing. It had me at hello, too.

Webmistress- I am having the hardest time deciding. I go back and forth everyday it seems. The crazy thing is my hubby and I were just discussing getting a new ring and as he was looking at the DBL website he calls me over and says "Babe I found your ring". Believe it or not it was the second ring that I have been looking at. I was almost completely sold on the first ring too. He likes the first one too but, like me, the second one just stands out to him in a way. I can't put my finger on it exactly. I know it's those side stones that set it off but idk if those stones would set off any stone like they set off that partic. center stone or if it is those three together that make a unique whole? Then I go back to my original thought of wanting a halo style ring. I think I really just need to talk to David and go from there. My husband and I are talking about just flying to NY and going to visit DBL. Noting is set in stone yet but knowing my Husband once he sets his mind to something he doesn't let grass grow. So if we are really going to do it the we will do it asap. I am almost to the point where I just want to make a decision and go with it. I can always buy more right!!

Go visit. I love that second one as well. The setting and the diamonds are spectacular. That claw setting is perfect for that stone.

I am a little surprised that I love this ring so much. Not because it isn't beautiful, it is. I just thought I would end up wanting a halo style ring. I'm a little nervous about the I clarity though and plan on speaking with David about it. The one thing I have learned from dealing with him the last month is that I know he will be honest with me. Love that about DBL. Was hoping that a few of you Diamond aficionados (OMC)  Wink would look at it for me and give me your opinions as well. The price is unbelievable and to me the center Diamond looks huge.  Thanks so much! Kris

Talking or visiting even is nice.  I really need to get out there and I am considering going to priceline to find a hotel so I can stay a day or two.  I also need to figure out flights too as I think it might just be beyond a distance I am willing to drive.

Anyway I think the one that your husband called you over to look at stands out for a few reasons.  The prong work is amazing.  It is so fluid and beautiful.  The side stones are very unique too... the little clipped corners on that patterning is just so cool, and safer I think than most princes cuts.  The color is one of my favorites of course LOL

It's tough to decide what is really "you" though.  Have you tried on types of rings to see what feels right on you?
