The little backstory.  For my First Communion 25 years ago, my grandparents bought me a savings bond.  It was for $100 that would mature in 10 years (so 15 years ago).  Well somehow it was filed away and forgotten for all this time.  I looked up and the value of it should be just about $200 now.

So my initial thought was that I should save it for a rainy day.  Buy clothes for my DS or something like that.  But I really doubt my grandparents had that in mind when they bought it.  My grandmother is the only remaining grandparent alive and she's 91 now.  So my first thought was, what were other gifts I got for first communion and immediately I thought

JEWELRY!!!  I received a yellow gold cross as well as a pretty amethyst bracelet among other things.

Now I know it isn't much money and I have a credit here as well as some money I can kick into it too, but I think my outside max budget is probably around $800 or less.   Preferably less as I really do need to save for a laptop.  So not a whole lot of money.

So I am looking for small suggestions here.  I am a WG wearer and can only wear drop earrings in my first hole.  I have a petite frame so small is good for me.

What would you do or am I insane to think I can get something for so little?

Thanks Foxylady - I found another one (and a couple of interesting things), but I edited rather than posting. Sorry.

Oh thanks OMC!  I missed those earrings and just stumbled on that necklace again.

I like sapphires in that it is my DH's birthstone.  But I haven't worn a colored stone daily (which is what I would want) in years.

I need to do some measurements on what I currently have to see what I feel about sizes.

I'd buy these in a heartbeat if they were drop earrings of some sort.
http://rockdiamond.c...-a-lage-mirror-image

Just to give you an idea of what I like as well.

But that necklace I had forgotten about.  I remember loving it and thinking about it as a dream piece at once point.

feel free to toss more ideas out.  I probably will have to wait until after bedtime for the little guy to do real measurements.  For now I am off to make pizza for dinner (we do this every Friday).

At least I know my little budget isn't too teeny weeny.

I'm sure David could fit a shepherd's hook / French wire to those - perhaps with a very small round on top of the emerald cut - and still be within budget...

I'll have to ask him about it after I go shopping tomorrow.

I decided while making dinner that I am going to stop at Tiffany's tomorrow to see what I like there.  Not that I'd be buying (I can't take their mark up) but to get an idea of what sizes I really like.  I know they have DBTY in all sorts which will help me out.

Then I'll have to find some old leverbacks I have that aren't real (sterling and crystal) and see what size they are since I liked the size of a few of them.

I really like what you posted as it gave me lots to think on.

Though for the rolling ring, I might as well just go for a reset of Sunny into one of these (yep back to halo)

I really love the ones GIAGirl posted.  I wonder if David could put those those on a French wire...

While I am the most indecisive chick out there with my rings, I know Sunny won't be redone for a while.  That was a stipulation of the ring.  My husband gets to say when we do it and he drives the budget.  All this is money I've earned lately doing other things and he won't ever feel right using it for something he wants to do.  Though those are my top two choices now.  I'm so bad at picking  Grin

I do like those sapphire earrings, but I admit the first ones OMC linked to are more my style.  Can't put a finger on why, but they are.

I spent some time looking through Tiffany's site and for sure I am going there tomorrow.  They have quite a lot of DBTY necklaces and other solitaire ones out there.  So I can get a feel for what I like on me.  They even have a sapphire center stone similar to the one OMC linked to.

Obviously not buying there, but they have a lot of what I want to see on me.

I still also think of this guy all the time http://rockdiamond.c...ue-gia-natural-r3293

The size is great, but I am no sold on a gray round.  I always say I am not much for larger rounds (though I have some for earrings) but I think given my first view of a gray diamond was a marquise, I have a different look in my head for one.  I do want whatever I get to be a nice piece to wear daily and for her to be proud to have helped buy.  But that gray still calls my name too....

So I went to Tiffany and tried on a lot.  I also tried on a bunch of stuff at another store and I decided I want a pendant and wait for earrings later.  They had some stuff similar to what was listed here particularly that beautiful sapphire necklace.

My end result is that the necklace was too much bling for my every day life.  I'm a petite gal of 5' tall and really not very big.  So I decided I want a simple diamond solitaire.

I'm going to e-mail David with some questions and stuff, but I ended liking a fixed prong set look just as much as DBTY

http://rockdiamond.c...-to-fit-your-diamond

So now my help turns into this.  Do I go with white round?  I already have Sunny so I don't think I need another yellow but is there another color that I should consider.  Shapes?  Help???  Size wise I tried on different things and I am way happier with 1/4 carat or less.

Also bearing in mind budget, brown (or brownish something)? A nice brown can be stunning, but given it's a dark colour I think you can go above 0.25 to 0.50 or so.

Very good point OMC!  I did send an e-mail to David and we'll see what he thinks.  He knows my budget and what I might like to spend.

Brown would be cool for sure.  A color like this is amazing too
http://rockdiamond.c...rownish-yellow-r3308

Obviously wrong size and price, but I really do like this color.

You are right, if something is darker I would be willing to go up in size.  I didn't chekc what colors I was looking at but IIRC, Tiffany only carries I and above so bright whites look so much "more" than a lower color.

I wonder if a nice radiant or the like would be more my tastes as well.  Just talking aloud now I guess.

I'm still thinking on it all saqsay.  I like the idea of something classic, but at the same time I am not always big on being traditional.

I really just need to think a little.

I think you should kite set this one into a pendant and continue to build a yellow set.  Since David gets in parcels from time to time, let him know when you'll be ready for your earrings so he can be looking for that size when he sorts out the diamonds.

ETA  Since you mentioned a quarter carat, here is a smaller one.

I have been thinking about a yellow set, but I am not 100% sure about it.  Mostly because I am still not sure what I want for earrings.  I either want a drop set (step cut of some sort or radiant) or I want diamond huggies.  I am still not sure yet.

I wouldn't mind doing a set, but I think I would want a RHR to be a part of the set.

I think...

but really I love the idea of a kite set radiant.  Hmmmmm  icon_scratch

That is a very cute ring, but I admit I need another ring like I need a hole in my head.  I've bought two diamond rings in the last year *eek*

Saqsay  has really put the idea of a kite set pendant in my head.  I'll have to ask if we can do that with the setting and if it is affordable for me.  If not, I have a feeling we'll be doing a RB to keep it simple.

Oops that was Sparkly who got the kite set in my head...

I finally decided last night that I will go for a kite set pendant.  Since princess are easier to find, we'll go with that.  And it will be "colorless" somewhere around 1/4 to 1/3 carat depending on what David can find.

I have to thank you all for giving ideas.  It really did help Smiley

Now I just hope my new checks arrive soon...... new account so I am waiting on a way to pay for this w/o having to charge it  Roll Eyes
