If there aren't diamonds in heaven, I'm not going!

« on: April 01, 2008, 06:45:15 PM »

Break out the balloons and the champagne!!  Today, DBL celebrates 10 years of finding the most beautiful diamonds and bringing them to our customers at a great price.  David started this business with little money and a whole lot of faith.  His first parcel of stones was given to him on nothing more than trust and he took off running.

Today, we are proud to serve the best customers in the world - literally!  You guys are everywhere: the US, England, Australia, Norway, you name it!  We have a successful forum that brings everyone together and every one of you plays a vital role in bringing life to CDI and ideas to DBL.  Several million dollars of diamonds are in stock at any one time.  We've come a long way in 10 years!

So here's to another 10 years of bringing you all some serious sparkle and having a whole lot of fun along the way!

Well I hope DBL`s still around when my precious grand daughter is wanting her first piece of bling.
I`m already compiling a shopping list but Grandma might have to wear them first  Evil
Congratulations David and all at DBL. Around the World there must be many beautiful brides who wear your rings, many fiancees who`ve tortured over the secret engagements rings they`ve chosen for their beloved GF, many anniversaries celebrated with a DBL diamond and many a milestone birthday made easier to accept that age creeps up on us all with a shiny creation from DBL.
A little piece of you everywhere. That takes some beating ...

Thank you so much everyone!

DJ set the stage, but please allow me to tell you the more complete story.

By the beginning of 1998, I had been working for a large site holder/cutter for about four years.  It was a pretty good job, as my territory was the Caribbean.  Spending a weekend of every month in the Caribbean was a lot of fun, let me tell you.
On the other hand, having to do business under someone else's rules was always difficult for me. Most diamond companies just don't seem to understand the value of a T-shirt and jeans.

Mind you, I did it, and I did it well... selling many millions of dollars every year. IN spite of my success as a salesman, it was seemingly impossible to save any money.

Anyway, there was a cutting factory attached to the office I used to work out of.  There was a guy that used to hang around there, and he saw how many diamonds I was selling.  This guy is a wheeler dealer of sorts.
Even though I might not haved loved working for those guys, there is no way I was about to sell out my integrity and take some of else's diamonds to sell in an underhanded manner.  After all, I had a commitment to the site holder.

But this wheeler dealer guy kept at me.  He would tell me how much more I could make if I just took my own diamonds down there and his. Eventually he started suggesting that we start a company.

Now, at that time, it wasn't that I had a little bit of money. I had NO money, in fact I was pretty much in the red... credit card debt.

Anyway around this time a scheme hatched in my head.  If this wheeler dealer guy was what he claimed (and he had been showing me a lot of nice diamonds), maybe I could go partners with him, and he would finance the business.
The deal we discussed was, he would come up with $30,000, and we would go partners.
When the day arrived, April 1, 1998, he came into the coffee shop where we had a meeting scheduled.  His plan: let's go partners, but he didn't have no $30,000

Folks, this is the time, where I jumped off a cliff with no parachute

Thank you all for the lovely wishes!!

I'd like to share a few things I'm particularly proud of with you guys....

Over the past three years we have satisfied clients in all 50 states-and many times.  For example,  we have 32 clients in Virginia.
Alaska may be a huge state, with a small "per acre" population... six of whom are Diamonds by Lauren client's.
Florida, the sunshine State.  Well, we've got 69 friends down there.  Many of whom have purchased multiple items over the past 3 years.

Yee HA- 55 Cowboys and Cowgirls have shopped with us lately.....

Aloha- 6 in Hawaii....

There's only one state with one name...we only have one client in Wyoming. Maybe I need to bring those horse head diamonds to a rodeo out there.....

Number one state for us?

The beautiful state of California.  Residing there are 134 folks with something from DBL.

Then we have our friends across the seas ....or border, such as many in Canada.
Also on our list of places where they speak DBLingish:
the Netherlands, Republic of Singapore, Norway, Italy, Ireland, Germany, France, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, and of course England, where, God bless the Queen, we have a lot of friends

When I use the term "we" to describe how many firneds and clients we have, it's very literal.

Each and every one of the moderators of this forum DJ- djm, and Annie- have performed their duties in an exemplary manner on behalf of this company. We work as a team.

We all should thank Webmistress- it was she who created and coordinated the entire platform for CDI.
Her work on the DBL site too, has been amazing.

Let's not forget the vital element here.
Every single person that reads this this have helped us to achieve these numbers.  I extend to all of you a personal note of gratitude-thank you for looking at Diamonds by Lauren, and considering the things written about there.
Thank you to every partipant and reader of CDi for participating here.

Again, David, congratulations on your anniversary. Kudos for hosting a great platform for ALL of us to shop, ask questions, voice our opinions, and make lasting relationships and friendships. WM, DJ, Annie, DJM: you ALL do a fabulous, albeit thankless, job. Many, many thanks for what you do everyday.  And, WM, I've said this to David and others before, your websites are wonderful... intelligently designed, easy and fun to use, and a  favorite "hang-out" for many!  hello2
