So when I am looking to put a diamond in a halo setting how much larger in mm does that make the ring? For instance if the diamond is 8mm by 6mm what would the final size be? I'm trying to figure out how different sizes would look on my finger. thanks!!

First of all welcome!!!

Unfortunately there is no straight answer for your question as it is very much related to the size of stones used for a halo.  It can be around 1mm on either side up - making a 8 x 6 mm stone to measure at 10 x 8 mm with halo, to whatever you wish it to be.  I did a double bezel on my stone (think of a halo without diamonds) and it added about a bit more than 1.5mm on either side.  Making my 6.34 x 5.15 mm diamond measuring with the bezel to be about 9.5 x 8.3 mm (estimated with a ruler)

Hmmm I am going to guess... each of these stones are probably just under 1point each so I will guess about 1.2mm for each.  I'd gather the halo adds about 1.5mm on either side much like my ring does.

Mrs. Mitchell has the same setting in an oval, hopefully she can measure hers for you since this exact ring is sold.

Oh- thank you!!  Does Mrs. Mitchell have any hand shots of her oval- I saw an oval diamond I liked, but wasn't sure I'd like the setting in the oval, so I hope she sees this and shows me hers!

Hi jpup - sorry I've been a little tardy in getting back to you!

I LOVE this setting. Even my mother likes it (she' impossible to please, this is the first time she's ever admired a piece I'm wearing).  I do like it very much with the oval centre, it's a nice organic shape. Mine is set East - West across the finger, which is slightly more unusual. I think it looks really delicate, although the close up photos do show how robust it is for a micropave setting.

It's one of these rare settings that will work with pretty much any shape of diamond. I've seen a fair few of these Hal 1 rings over the years and they look wonderful with all sorts of shapes and colors of centre stone. Oval is my favourite, but it's also a really nice way to set a cushion. If you take a search through our Show off Your Jewels pages on CDI, you should come across a few versions of this setting. The nice thing is how it takes on the personality of the centre stone, so it will look unique. Prongs or bezels are available, and two tone if you have a colored centre stone.

Page three of this thread has a ton of photos of my ring, including a few handshots.

I'll get rough measurements later - my best friend borrowed some of my jewelry last night to go to a formal dinner, so it's out on loan at the moment.

Sorry - I just wrote you a novel here, but I really am charmed by this ring and excited to have it!

Hope it helps a little. Ask any questions, that's what we're here for! Feel free to email me if you want to chat about it, too.

Jen

ETA the measurements of my stone un-set are 6.74 x 4.55, and it's 0.69ct, with around 0.20 white melee stones in the shank and halo. I'll get a measurement of the finished ring's dimensions later.

thank you. Your ring is beautiful and the east-west is more unusual. It looks lovely on your hand. When you have a chance I'd love to hear what the amount the halo adds to the diameter of the diamond. thanks!!!!
