Hola all!!!

My wife and I have a 0.70 carat fancy intense yellow diamond (I do not have any pictures but I do have the GIA report which I will be happy to post if I can figure out how to post pictures -- I am pretty computer illiterate)

Anyway, We have finaly decided to get it set and after looking for mucho time at different places and styles, we have decided on DBL as the jewelry here looks unmatched.  I have not yet contacted anyone at the shop as it is very difficult for me to call during the week, but my wife and I do have a dilemma, so to speak ....

My wife has smallish hands and if I remember correctly, this ring would go on her right ring finger, which is size 5.  She loves the look of the halo rings, but we cannot decide on which style.  We have narrowed it down to two though, something like .... the single shank of #R3392 or the split shank mount of #S03472.  What does everyone think about single/split shanks?  Is one more secure feeling?  Does one take up more "finger-real-estate? Does one look more classic the other?  Any help or info would be spectacular!!!

The diamond is a 0.70 fancy intense yellow, measurements of 5.69 x 4.84 x 3.13 w/ a table of 62% and depth of 64.7%.

Thanks!!!

Daniel

First of all, welcome!!!  I think the jewelry from Diamond By Lauren is wonderful so I think you made a great choice Smiley

This is not going to help, but honestly single vs split shank IMO is a total preference thing.  I really love both.  I would go with a single shank that I could wear flush next to my wedding band.  But I think the split shank is classy too.

Yeah I was no help was I?

Though I think that a split shank would have a bit more "bling" and finger coverage in a way.  Both are lovely though.

I really only prefer a single shank for a wedding set if it's going to be one stone like a solitaire or a halo.  If this is meant as an RHR I prefer the split shank look as I think it stands better on its own.

I'd go with the split shank for a RHR.  Single shank would look more like an ER.

My post sounded not quite as clear as I wanted it too.  If it were a set, I would go for the single shank.  But since it is a RHR I think both are good.

I wanted to come back and say with that shape, I think a split shank would look wonderful though.

I'm afraid it's down to pure personal preference.

Split shanks are more difficult to stack tidily with other rings, so if she plans on wearing more than one ring on the same finger/changing hands, a single shank or very high split (not like SO3472) could be easier. DW wears a ring with the same split-shank mount you are considering, and it's just about thin enough to work, but it does keep the ring slightly off at an angle.

Both designs are classic, and I think a feeling of secure fit comes more down to proper sizing and shank thickness than split vs. single. Split will look - and in fact is - a larger jewel. Again, depending on the effect you are after, you may prefer one rather than the other; the stone will look larger in a halo anyway.
