Here's an idea that's already been tossed around- but I've got a model for a head.

I believe we'd bezel the yellow diamonds into the little holes, and a wire basket type head can be constructed over the circular hole in the middle

That is a beautiful design! Is this project going ahead now? How exciting! Dale, I'm really excited to see your finished piece, I think it's going to be really special.

Can you imagine this setting with pink side stones in rose gold with a high white in a platinum center?  Delicious!

Thank you all for the great ideas.

The concern I have is the footprint and heaviness of the setting.  My significant other wants to be able to wear a standard (3mm platinum) band that fits with or without the engagement ring.  We travel to many places including China, India and Nepal where she would like to wear the simple wedding band without the diamond ring.  Also she holds the engagement ring and wedding band as personal promises, so a different separate wedding band would not do.  I would like a standard 3mm wedding band to fit flush with the engagement ring that can also be worn separately.  I was hoping the lower tulip mount could be similar to R1849tril.jpg.  The top of the ring touching the finger would be narrower than the main band with the basket mounting and prongs for the top of the side tulips would still allow the wedding band to be flush, similar to you semi mount, Cath.jpg,  if the metal cathedral is replaced with the tulips and the cross bar that touches the finger is narrowed in case the prongs or other mounting for the tulips need to mount to the side of the narrowed portion of the ring.

As you can tell I have a vision and am very picky.  I am sure we can come to a design that exceeds the original vision.

Happy New Year,
Dale

Hi Dale! I totally understand about not wanting to switch the wedding band, I feel the same way. Depending on the thickness of the wedding band, I've found that some actually fit flush if the stones on the engagement ring are set just a little higher. There's a brand in the UK called wedfit that are designed that way and I've tried on a few of their settings, they work well. I'm sure David can work out something similar (although I think his quality would be higher, to be honest).

You're quite right to be picky - she's going to wear this set for a lifetime, so it needs to be exactly right. I know it will be, too!

Happy New Year to you both,

Jen

I still love this design!  I understand that it's not for you, Dale, but I think David should make this ring for someone else.  Like maybe me.   Grin   Seriously, what size stones do you think would work in this setting?  Green sidestones with milgrain bezels?

I think it will work Dale.
It's possible thjere will be a small gap, but not something disturbing.
Actually we'll probably have to make the ring to see for sure...but we do specialize in delicate designs....

I think most around here are not accustomed to seeing these moldings before they are polished. They often look sort of clunky and cheap prior to the polishing. I think it would have about the same gap as my wedding band and three stone which is really nothing.
