Hi all,

Just today, I sent payment for a ring with this center diamond

http://rockdiamond.c...ne-great-price-r4142

and this semi mount
http://rockdiamond.c...h-split-shank-so3924

and I was happy and calm and loving life.

But I just checked the new items on the DBL site and I saw this!!!!

http://rockdiamond.c...ut-great-price-r4012

It looks sparkly and HUGE!

And now I don´t know what to do. I just emailed David asking him for side by side pics of the stones so hopefully he´ll find some time to do that...

but I NEED EDUCATED opinions please!

I´ve seen SET Y-Zs that look very yellow, but seeing this one loose in the photos it looks so faint! Maybe it´s a fainter shade of YZ? More akin to a WX?

Does anyone have before and after photos of their YZs? Losse and set?

Please help this conflicted first time yellow!!!
 Huh?

Here's a ring David made me for me with a W-X stone, prong set and therefore, no yellow gold bezel to make it appear more yellow.  I also have a shot of the same stone when I had it bezeled in yellow gold as a pendant, below.  I thought I was in a unique situation to show you the same stone in two different settings for your reference.  And this stone is a W-X, not a Y-Z, so it's even lighter.  What do you think?

Yawza Mikla, thank you!

You rule, great pics. Did you ever have a pic of your stone when it was loose?

Here is Sunny unset

And set

I looked at my Sunny photo next to the Y-Z you are considering  and I really do think they are fairly close in color unset.  I do think the stone you are looking at is a very bright stone and probably looks lighter than it is.

If it were me?  I'd take that .91 in a heartbeat and double bezel with split shank it and be in love.

That would be one heck of a RHR.  The .63 is a beautiful stone too but would be more squarish in look where this is an absolutely lovely long rectangle.

Honestly it is your call, but I would NOT worry about the Y-Z color at all.

You guys are the best!

Thanks so much Squiggly, as the original double bezeler and the creator of the Squiggly look, your opinion means a lot to me!

Thanks guys for the super quick replies!

Thanks Mikla!
I think unset they both look yellower than the .91ct. Squigs, you think it´s the sparkle factor making it seem whiter in the pics? or maybe different photo techniques used on diff days?  Huh?

PtyMom, my stone has a GIA report stating W-X, but I always thought I lucked out on that grade (in other words, I think I paid a W-X price but got a Y-Z).  It is definitely lighter than my 1.61 FLY though.  What do you think you're gonna do?

I do agree that my Y-Z unset does look more yellow than the .91 unset.  I do want you to look at this listing though...

http://rockdiamond.c...nt-gia-beautiful-cut

Look at how light this Y-Z looks in some photos and in others, way more yellow.  So yes, do think the brilliance of a stone can make it appear brighter/lighter.  I actually did not even look through listings to find this one.  I just clicked on the first Y-Z stone I saw Grin

Let David answer for sure since he can see the stone with his own eyes.  I totally trust his grading though.  I really do based on the clarity grade he gave my stone.  I'd 100% trust his grades.

Just to add here is the progression of Sunny from unset, to prong set to double bezel.  Just so you can see absolutely side by side.

Ummmm....don't kill me but one of the reasons I'm so busy is the six new stones we just got- from .50 to .89ct....part of the estate we bought...

No problem at all if you want to change your mind- but maybe wait a few days to see the new goodies first?

Thanks David!

OK, I´ll wait, but if you sell this .91ct before I make up my mind, while waiting for the goodies, I´ll be OUT TO GET YOU!

Thanks Squigs, I just love your progression!!

Now I am curious what else is coming our way... I alawys love looking at new sparklies Grin

Ptymom I had never done that progression before but I love seeing it myself.  I never would have guessed my stone would ever look *that* yellow!  I'd never worry about getting a Y-Z or even a W-X stone based on what I've experienced Smiley

Maybe you can dream of good things coming your way if you do get some sleep?

I have a stone keeping my brain occupied since I saw it earlier.  I can't quite figure out what I would do with it, but it would be ideal for a mother's ring (yellow sapphire).  Darn thing is really going to keep me up at night too Grin

Seeing as I´m never going to sleep again, I figured I´d post a comparative pic.

The first is an S-T, the second the Y-Z in question, and the third one, a random Y-Z (looking the lightest it does in any of the photos)

I really think the .91 Y-Z looks more like the S-T than the Y-Z. Could this be due to a difference in lighting or photo techniques?

I think I oficially need to see another pic of this baby... (it´s soooo pretty!!)

Food for thought while I wait for the new goodies!  Grin

Squigs, what´s a Mother´s Ring? And can I see that yellow sapphire? I´ve never seen one come to think of it.

A mother's ring is really any ring that signifies your child/ren.  If you have more than one a lot of them have one little stone for each child - usually their birthstone.  Since we have only one I've been trying to come up with one design that really is all about my son.

His birthstone is citrine/yellow topaz and knowing how quickly I have destroyed amethyst rings, I don't want to use his actual birthstone.  Sapphire is my husband's birthstone so having a yellow sapphire would be a neat blend for both.

Anyway here is the sapphire
http://rockdiamond.c...eautiful-color-r4181

I do worry about wearing two yellow stones but they would probably be different enough to not make a difference.  I also wouldn't have a clue how to set it.  I have other rings I want that kind of signify our family (like the rolling ring) so I would want this to be more inexpensive in reality.

You know ptymom, I was thinking the same thing, that the .91 y-z was a lot lighter than the other Y-Z's, and even lighter than some W-X stones I saw in there.  There is a range of color within each grouping, so it could be at the lighter range acceptable for that group...and it could be the lighting, but you should ask David directly since he has all the diamonds in hand.

Hmmm. Essentially then, this RHR I´m having made IS a Mother´s Ring. I only have one daughter, who´s the Sunshine of my life. I intend to wear this ring until my baby girl (now 2.5) has her first baby. Then I´ll give it to her to wear.  Smiley

What a lovely stone! I´m curious to see what you dream up for this one. You have a good track record for inventions!  Grin

I dont see how I missed this last night, but I see what you mean about the color being WAY lighter in some pictures! They do look very similar! I just saw the video on that one and WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!! I think Im definitely going for the .91ct. I´m just going to wait to see what else is in the estate, but I THINK I MADE UP MY MIND!! THAT .91ct IS MINE!!!  Grin

I agree, I do want to see this stone looking yellower (oooh a video!) before I make a change to my original plans. Last night I was thinking it might have been a typo even. But I guess we´ll see. I´ll wait until David has a minute, posts the new Estate pieces and then gives me his input....

Good thing I´m insanely busy this whole week. Waiting is not my forte. Undecided

Well thank you for the kind thoughts of "inventions"  I do dream a lot and don't always make things but it is fun.

I really have "chocolate gold" on my brain right now and wouldn't mind seeing that stone set in chocolate gold.  But I know nothing about chocolate gold or how easy it is to find someone who works with it.  Since I have nothing set in stone in my head I don't want to bug David about "just an idea"

I am also torn on the idea of just getting a 3 stone ring as more of a family ring and had a few I wanted to see in person in Oct.  So we shall see what I do.  I'm far to indesicive sometimes.

As for your choice... I am sure you cannot go wrong with either stone, but given my love for my Sunny I'd be more likely to go for the .91.  Something else to think about is do you prefer a square or a rectangle?  Do you have short or long fingers?  I'd try on shapes to see which is more appearling too and see if there is a clear cut answer that way too.
