Here's the plan for Feb. or March 2010: Yellow diamond in Pink Halo ring.  While I have pretty much been a "white" diamond lover, I am now looking at some of the scrumptious yellows D has on his site right now.  Then, I found pics of Mikla's pink lemonade ring, and I'm obsessed with getting one similar to that.  I have lots of questions, but first the diamonds I'm looking at right now:

So, first, anyone who has a yellow diamond in a ring, please share what you like, don't like (if anything), how it compares to colorless diamonds, how medium blue flour might affect the yellow color of the stone, and if you absolutely love the yellow or if you'd go back to colorless.

Also, which one of the two diamonds above would you put in a pink halo ring?

That first stone is one of my faves!!!!!!!  Either one of those stones would make a great pink lemonade ring.  GO FOR IT.

Hi Kati!

Since you asked, I have three yellow diamonds, and I adore them all!  The first is a 2.18ct W-X radiant with 1.46ct pink sapphires; the second a 1.61ct Fancy Light Yellow radiant; and the third a 1.70ct Fancy Light Brownish Yellow old mine brilliant.  I wouldn't change any of the stones in these settings to white.  It's really a matter of taste.  You decide; pictures below.

The pink halo ring you posted isn't mine as I used an F, 1.29ct Asscher stone.  My husband and I took the Asscher shot below so it's not very good, nothing compared to David's pics!  Let me just say that both white and yellow look gorgeous in that setting.  The white stone makes the ring's colors look cooler, while I find the yellows a whole lot warmer.  Have fun with your decision!

Mikla

Thank you, GIA Girl! I really like the first one also!

Hi Mikla, I'm so sorry, and so embarrased.  I think that may be Michi's ring (?)

I love all your collection! That radiant with pink saphires is TDF!  love7
Thank you for sharing! The more I think about it, the more I know this is the way to go.

BTW, thinking it may be October or November now.  cross

Both diamonds you posted are gorgeous Kati!

I have a 2.83 Y-Z radiant set in a ring with white trills (in my avatar) and a 1.32 U-V heart set in a solitaire pendant and there is nothing I dislike about either.  I also have a G colored round brilliant and an F colored EC, and though I love both, if I were ever forced to choose I would not want to be without my yellow.  I find it totally versatile and completely enchanting.  And you don't see the same thing on everyone else walking down the street.

Cannot wait to see what you choose!  Grin

Hi Kati,

Nice to have a friend doing project together.  Grin
I have my fancy light yellow cushion bezel set in white halo like Hal2 but this ring is not from DBL. I love it.
However I notice that while the bazel add more intensity in yellow color it also block some light from the side. I think prong set give the diamond more sparkle and stand out while bezel set add more color to the diamond and more modern look. This depend on what you like.    My2cents

I love the first diamond you choose. asymmetry in the picture might bother me a bit but I guess in real ilfe it will be very hard to notice.  Wink

I don't think you would regret having a yellow diamond, Kati! I would love one - it's high on my wishlist.

As for the setting, there's something special about a halo and a pink halo doubly so! I love the first stone you posted and if that was mine I'd go for halo. If funds weren't an issue, I might even go for pink sidestones, similar to Sandra's gorgeous engagement ring (I think hers has a pink centre with yellow sides, but similar idea). The look of that ring is just stunning.

So much fun planning a project - what are you leaning towards at the moment? October / November isn't that far away at all, you need to get serious about planning this!  Grin

Thank you GL! That is really helpful.   It's kind of hard to see the ring in your avatar, but it looks gorgeous! It's so nice to be able to come here and get the feedback like y'all are giving me about the yellows.  Do you have additional pics of the ring in your avatar? If so, would you mind posting them here?

Thank you Jen! That's a really good idea about having sidestones. I was actually looking at the the two half moons D has on the site now, but I'm not sure if those would be too big for either stone? Also, I have been trying to get a pink halo for a couple years now, and for whatever reason, I've been able to get the center stone I want, but not the halo.  ha ha Good things come those who wait??  Grin
Or, patience is a virtue? angel

Hi Namtan, most definitely fun to have a friend to do a project with.  Thank you for sharing about the bezel because I was really thinking that was the way to go, but now I'm thinking split double claw prongs, and a profile like GL's Hybrid.  What do y'all think about something like that?

Split claws are a big favourite of mine since I saw GL's. So elegant and just a little bit different, so I'd go with that whatever else you pick! It adds something special to a ring.

I love the idea of half moon sidestones, I think it was Mary Alaina who had a yellow radiant with half moons and it was an all time favourite of mine. Lovely look, just so classic. Trills are wonderful with a square radiant, too. I'm guessing that if the half moons you've seen don't 'fit' the centre stone, David will find some that do.

Halo is always a good choice - you can't really go far wrong with a delicate little halo of white or coloured diamonds, can you?

I'm no help - I love all of your options!

Aw, thanks Kati!  Here is the best photo I have of the split prongs, as well as a few of the Hybrid's profile.

Ugh, just saw how blurry that is.  I will try to get a better photo later today.  I get a ton of compliments on both rings, and I am sure whichever you choose will be stunning!

I always value your opinion! Thank you, and please keep sharing your ideas with me.  What would you do with one of those diamonds? With me, it's almost always a ring so I can see it at all times! ha ha  I don't think I've seen a pic of Mary Alaina's ring...I'll have to go through some of the threads to see if I can find it.  You're absolutely right, David can find me something if I choose a 3-stone design.  Something to keep thinking about. Of course, ideally, I'd buy both and have both a 3-stone and a halo...when I win the lottery! Grin

Ooohhh GL! That ring is drop dead gorgeous. I really like the double claw prongs.  And, the center diamond is just incredible.   Cool  Thank you for posting those pics here.  I'm getting some very good ideas.

To add to the mix, DH likes the 1.14 oval that D has on his site, and is really trying his best to convince me that's the way to go. I think there's a yellow oval as well, but while ovals are beautiful, I don't know that I like it better than a more square shape.

Thanks Kati, nice of you to say so!

Well, it's going to be a ring most likely, so you can see it, so (and I'm sure you know this already) maybe go and try on square and oval shapes in the maul to get a feel for how you like them? I thought I knew exactly what I suited in terms of shape until I tried on 5 stone and 3 stone rings. Totally different look to my solitaire.

As to what I would have if it was my choice....

a nervous breakdown, trying to pick between trills / half moon sidestones and a classic halo. I love both looks sooooo much with a yellow centre, the choice would just kill me.  I would be paralysed by indecision and knowing that I'd love both, I think I would probably have to ask David to pick whichever suited the stone / budget best if I ever wanted to complete the project.  Grin Imagine the usual excitement of waiting for Fed Ex + meeting your surprise ring? I know that is not for everyone by any means, but I'd love that! I'm probably just a weirdo! Wink

ROFL!  laughing4 The maul!  That's exactly how I feel about going shopping on weekends!  I hate the crowds.

Still an excellent point, Miz M!  45My problem was I couldn't find anything that even remotely resmebled Li'L BLOOO - she's too dainty, and the color thing was messing with my head.  tamm  So she was a huge surprise when we got her box opened.  smileyparty

What about this stone...I like this one as well.  You could have more budget to do sidestones and a halo...

Jen, you crack me up! That last paragraph about sums it up especially since I'm looking at putting one of the lovely stones on hold either Saturday or Monday.  I've emailed D and asked him his preferences (specifically for a pink halo though). He said that he would put the square radiant (the bottom yellow) in a pink halo.  Hmmm...so I have to give that some serious thought because he can see the diamonds IRL.  I really hate going to the maul, but that's such a good idea.  So here's the new question: Would you choose one of the yellows, the oval, or the cushion?

You're right, that oval is beautiful, and so is the yellow oval D has right now as well. You and Mrs. M are right...I need to go try some rings on to see which shape I like better.  Thank you for posting the link to the cushion.  It's a gorgeous stone (which of D's aren't?) and definitely something to look at if I want sidestones.

The cushion is beautiful. I love a nicely cut cushion and that is one of them!

Still, I think you'd maybe still hanker after something yellow if you chose a white centre stone at this point. You could try Trinkette's Patented Virtual Jewellery Box Technique. It works roughly like this- picture your box, now open it really quickly and what do you see? Now close it again and open it to look at all the options together. Which one do you want to put on?  Grin
